QPR misfit to be offered lucrative January move to MLS - report

Queens Park Rangers defender Rio Ferdinand will retire next summer, but MLS bosses still want him.

QPR were expected to coast to the Championship title last season, but Harry Redknapp's men earned promotion the hard way, with a last gasp Bobby Zamora goal handing them a victory in the playoff final against Derby County in May.

Redknapp was set the task of keeping Rangers in the top flight this season, and set about it with a number of new additions.

Alex McCarthy, Mauricio Isla, Steven Caulker, Rio Ferdinand, Sandro, Jordon Mutch, Leroy Fer and Eduardo Vargas all arrived at Loftus Road this summer, but it hasn't particularly helped QPR so far.

Saturday's 2-1 defeat to Chelsea leaves QPR second bottom of the Premier League with just seven points having picked up two wins and one draw from the first ten games.

The pressure is piling on manager Redknapp, but one of his new signings has come in for even more criticism so far this season.

Centre back Ferdinand left Manchester United in the summer upon the expiration of his contract, and a reunion with his former West Ham boss Redknapp seemed like the perfect marriage.

Yet so far, Ferdinand has been terrible in the QPR back line, which has led to the 35-year-old announcing that he will hang up his boots at the end of the season.

Despite that, it's being reported that MLS sides are now looking into the prospect of giving the former England international a short term contract before the retires.

Some of his former England teammates such as David Beckham, Jermain Defoe and Frank Lampard have signed for MLS sides recently, and it's believed that Major League Soccer recognise the marketing potential of Ferdinand.

Another piece of "insightful journalism" that any moron could have cobbled together. He failed to actually name the MLS bosses that want Rio. Of course, any former PL player nearing retirement is prime MLS fodder.

I freely admit I got this one completely wrong. I saw initial merit and hoped he could provide leadership.

    Wrong, wrong wrong.

Was just looking at the news there and they said Rio Ferdinand is speaking at a big internet event or summat in Dublin today.

Don't that bloke ever get off the stage?

According to a recent HR interview, Rio is always the first out on the training ground and the last to leave!
