"A fourth division player in Switzerland has been handed a 50-year ban after kicking a ball in the refereeâs face and then spraying him with water. According to the Swiss newspaper Blick, the defender Ricardo Ferreira of Portugal Futebol Clube was an unused substitute in the 1-0 defeat by SC Worb in the local Bern league. But it was not until after the match that he entered the fray, kicking the ball in the refereeâs face and then hurling insults as the official made his way to the tunnel before squirting him with water. well.... that does sound more like assault post game than anything. quite nuts... but i thin the ban in unenforceable.
“We do not want such a player in our league,” said Robert Breiter, the lawyer of Switzerland’s amateur football league. “Unfortunately we encounter such cases about once a year.” Ferreira has previously found himself in hot water with the authorities, having once been banned for 45 matches after being found guilty of assaulting opposition players and abusing officials. “I had expected one or two years maximum. But 50 years? Football’s my life,” he said. Ferreira’s new suspension is officially for an indefinite period but because the governing body’s computer requires an end date, it was set 50 years later. That means he will be free to return to football on 5 June, 2064, when he will be 78. that is a wheeze. he should switch codes to rugby or something.. maybe american football.
I wonder how long the ban would have been if he'd bit him. Also what sort of rules does the Swiss FA have - precedents and all that? A year ban if you abuse officials x50 for repeat offence ??
The ban is infinite but their computer system couldn't handle it so they said 50 years "Ferreira’s new suspension is officially for an indefinite period but because the governing body’s computer requires an end date, it was set 50 years later. That means he will be free to return to football on 5 June, 2064, when he will be 78."
in our sunday league there deffo was one keeper who looked that age. something for the lad to look forward to.
Slightly OT - has anyone seen that advert [Halifax Buiding Society I think ?] where the fella's setting up a walking football team for OAP's?
They have a walking football league in Shrewsbury. You have to be 55 or over to join a team, they are very strict on the walking element. If you run its a foul.
I thought it looked a good idea if you're older, love football and want to exercise - just need to be careful with the goal celebrations
So basically these guys require the game to be played at the same pace at it was when they were young then?
i meant in the sense i was very good at chipping people, cant really do that with them silly rules lol, i was quite good with my feet to be honest, but i was brought up under the rules of lumping it to the big man up top crap sadly.
