Definition of fluke - achieve bing something through luck rather than skill. If you think we were lucky in every single game we played then yes it was a fluke. Clearly that wasn't the case though so no... Case closed
Well said. Reading comments like: 'He stumbled upon the right formation' 'He had a world class player like Suarez' It shows you the bitterness of some fans who simply cannot get beyond their bias towards rival clubs. 'He stumbled upon the right formation' - yes, he assessed that his primary way of playing wasn't working, adapted, adjusted to play to the strengths of his attack force. There's no luck in it - just good management to get the best out of the resources he had the 'He had a world class player like Suarez' - Yep, the club scouted a player, paid big money for him, train him, develop and use him. So flukey and lucky aren't we.
Why we were unable to get at least a draw from Chelsea game at Anfield and beat Crystal Palace away still is beyond my understanding. To win the league or win any cup competition requires some luck, be it Chelsea, Man City or Real Madrid/Barcelona.
To argue that there as no luck involved at all for Rodgers is as ridiculous as suggesting it was all due to good fortune. The truth lies somewhere in between
why? the palace game was a direct result of the chelsea one. the Chelsea game was panic. you could see lads trying too hard. we had one draw allowed in our pocket but got antsy. Gerrard was silly looking at a hollywood pass in injury time at the end of a half and not seeing the game out passing it around the cbs and him. we were out to just win that game and not take the point if cheslea were offering it... hell mourinho all but telegraphed to his old mucker it was therfore the taking. palace didn't matter after that 3-0 up chasing 8-0.... city were never going to drop a point. its not luck... its brains, maturity, sensible play. cheslea are too negative for my liking and foul so much but they are happy to see off city 1-1 depsite city being down to 10 men and then go play utd away and defend a 1-0 for 30 mins and clog their way towards a final whistle cos they know they'll take the other 80 odd points by beating the rest of the league handy... LFC had the hard yards down and two frankly gimmie games at the end. all the need do was play sensible but we looked totally flabbergasted by cheslea defending with 8 men and panicked we couldn't score and so chased a game we didn;t need to. Like i said to uir.. almost... pah... lfc should be better in my view than almost. real teams make most of their own luck and lfc right now are not working hard enough to get luck in my view. If you play 30 yards away from goal and in fornt its very hard to get a lucky pen eh if we'd even run at sides and be direct and get in to the pen area and trheaten some luck might come... ffs reality check.. swansea win was lucky.. we got the ball in and two goals happened.
We didn't draw against Chelsea because: 1. Rodgers ****ed the tactics up 2. We were massively unlucky with the now infamous 'Gerrard Slip'
No - the truth lies more towards good management. Agreed there is a little bit of luck especially in terms of the decisions we received re. penalties etc. But to say we got lucky because we had a top class attack and played to their strengths is stupid.
So what was all that "Liverpool have a pact with the devil" stuff? (Or is the pact just limited to European football?)
That's a ****ing fact When you've been seeing decisions going for your lot that date back to 1977, then you'd maybe get what I mean
It is really semantics. Rather than saying it is down to luck, people could say LIverpool took advantage of the circumstances. Had Ferguson not retired and Mourinho not recently joined Chelsea, would LFC be there? I say unlikely. So things aligned themselves and LFC took advantage. So not luck but benefitted from good fortune. Football especially in cups have been about luck. We could easily have gone out of the league cup but we could also easily win it too. If Terry had not slipped United would not have won the CL and subsequent history for both United and Chelsea changed. This season, the circumstances are not that fortunate. All the teams seemed to have strengthened. Even the so called mid table ones. At the moment those who look at future fixtures and predict the number of points might as well roll a dice. It may be harsh to say this but at the moment there is no team that we can say we will get most likely get 3 points against. Where we end up at the end of the season may be down to luck/good fortune/roll of the ball ...??
dunnooooooooo had is like almost... Uir got laughed at with alomost. i agree ther was a lot of things comgint ogether to get lfc up there but i feel we would have seen off arsenal if the manc had not fallen down given our tally when is not an almost and further.... well if cheslea could have been that bit better... 2nd or 3rd... they beat us twice! is 10 pens lucky... nah its getting in the box and making refs make decisions. if some are dives **** off cos every club has the same ****. this year we are not getting next nor near the box and last season we were spending half the game in it. ithink where we end up is a direct result of the actions at the club by manager and players not anything else so all the roll of the ball or luck will do is maybe sort 7th out from 8th etc... it sure as hell aint going to turn us into 4th place.... only hard work and playing well will do that
I agree there was some luck along the way but doesn't every top (in terms of league) team have luck on their side? Its even considered needed to be able to win the league.
It wasn't luck but a few things aligned that Liverpool took advantage of. United were obviously in a massive post fergie slump, Suarez developed in his last 2 years into a player beyond all expectations, no European football during that key last 3 months etc. Also Liverpool came from being a decent top 7 side to title challengers almost over night and took the league by surprise which rarely happens over the course of a whole season. This year I think you're feeling the weight of expectation and that you are more of a scalp for others than 18 months ago. Main difference between last season and this year is clearly Suarez. You have a better squad arguably but the first team with no Suarez, Sturridge constantly injured and Gerrard looking increasing past his best looks a lot weaker than last year. Especially going forward.
