Patrick van Aanholt looks set to be sidelined for at least a month after dislocating his shoulder in Sunderlandâs 3-1 win over Crystal Palace. The Dutchman suffered the injury 10 minutes before half-time at Selhurst Park, seemingly as he used his right arm to push himself up off the turf after a sliding tackle. Van Aanholt was given oxygen as he was stretchered off, and boss Gus Poyet revealed that the former Chelsea man went straight to hospital. The 24-year-old was later given the all-clear to return home to Wearside with the rest of the squad. Poyet confirmed: âPatrick has dislocated his shoulder. âHe went to the hospital before coming home with us. âI think now it is about finding out how bad the damage is. âWeâll have to wait and see.â While it is too early to say how long van Aanholt is expected to be absent, Sunderland striker Steven Fletcher was missing for around a month after he sustained a similar injury at the start of last season. I thought he was excellent last night
In other news ......... Rodwell set to resume training Published: 04 November, 2014 by Stuart Vose Midfielder expected to return from knock on Wednesday. Gus Poyet is hoping to have Jack Rodwell available to face Everton after the midfielder missed the win at Crystal Palace. Rodwell picked up a knock and was absent from the matchday squad as Sunderland recorded a 3-1 victory thanks to Steven Fletcher's double and a strike from Jordi Gomez. However, Poyet revealed the injury isn't serious, with the midfielder expected to return to training tomorrow ahead of Sunday's game against his boyhood club. “Jack was just a little bit of a calf issue, but I have been promised that on Wednesday he is training with us so I’m looking forward to seeing him.” Poyet saw his injury list lengthen at Selhurst Park as Patrick van Aanholt was stretchered off with a dislocated shoulder. Meanwhile Lee Cattermole will miss the visit of the Toffees through suspension after picking up his fifth booking of the season.
Real shame for Paddy V, I really like the lad. When was the last time we had a real LB to call our own?
I tried that once, unless you treat it properly with a sling, you run the risk of it keeping falling out again, on a daily basis until the socket is absolutely destroyed. Let's just hope the poor lad knows how to 5 knuckle shuffle with his other hand.
Well we all know that very few girls know how to do, it, no matter how rich you are there's some things money can't buy.
He was excellent last night till the injury. A headache for Gus. Does he break up Oshea and Vergini and play Brown central Vergini right Réveillère left? I may have dismissed it but the thought of Mavrias at right back could work v Everton as Baines is constantly attacking. It keeps Jos and Vergini together and Réveillère looked capable and composed at left back. + we can do without another Brown clanger!
Said as soon as it happened it would be at least a month. It's standard. Now to see if there's any ligament damage and how bad. Ultimately we still have no idea how long he'll be out, they can't scan until the swelling has subsided.
There's no way you can tell with a dislocation, he'll be out a minimum of 6 weeks for it to heel, but you're talking about a defender here, shoulder barging and the lot... the kid could be out for up to 6 months. Rojo is supposed to be looking at around 3 for his injury, that's just a guess right now.
If it's a clean pop with no muscle damage then he has a week in a sling then 3 or 4 weeks to make sure it's heeled enough, that's minimum. More often than not there is ligament and cartilage damage which will lay him of longer, a lot longer if it's bad, like you say months and months.
He didn't look as bad as Rojo to be fair, I don't recall seeing him on gas & air, and he was sitting up as he walked off the pitch, so maybe he's been lucky.
Hope so, looking like it's at least 5 games he's out. Fortunately Coates is only going to miss one more if we're lucky as we're back to 4 defenders to choose from with no other fullbacks. Grim.
I don't even know who we have available for our next game mate, Smalling's banned, Rojo's injured. Rafael was injured for the last match, Jones and Evans are still out to the best of my knowledge. I would imagine it's gonna be Carrick and McNair at centre half, Shaw and Valencia full backs. Thankfully it's Crystal Palace, we should be able to scrape a draw!
