Mafia # 4 sign up thread

The next international fixtures are coming up in 11 days.

This means we, if we are going to, run a mafia #4 thread now is the time to

a) sign up

b) offer your musts/wants for the game.

Things we like:


Mito: I quite liked some aspect f the last game but not all of it.

free masons = good.
Mafia block on recruited before losing member = bad
2 mafia teams = interesting but complicated
was not liking off forum pages but in the end they were ok.
people calling names = very bad
people not applying roles well = bad.
having a punishment system is required. people have lives yes but if you sign up you must contribute.

I'd like to see the single team that grows thing mentioned (not vampires but whatever you call it)

I'd like a shadow game. for the dead to keep playing, not on the active forum nor on the pages for mafia this time but where you don't know who's who but can play the game still.... in fact i had a great idea... the dead vote. All the dead must not be allowed to see who is who after dying but get a vote from beyond the grave for some action.

I also want a simple 10 to 20 posts per day rule for all members of they lose thier vote the following day. this is very easy to track. 20 posts = be one for a half hour ffs.

You can't limit people posts per day though. Not everyone can get on every day and others like Gerrez afc myself sometimes talk quite a bit and without that the game does a bit. If you get them to cut down then conversation stops.

It's a pain reading through 10 pages sometimes but better than only having. 1 page for a whole day.

 

its a concept, lets talk on it. 10 posts in an entire day = not much. some talk a lot some didn't we have to do something to balance it.. if you've a requirement to do 50 posts total and you go do 25........ well it says something. I'm only asking for a minimum contribution not cutting anyone. if you post all of 2 posts in the morning, vote and then not bother turn in all day and your vote is used by mafia cos they know you aint coming back then its bad. that's all i'm saying.

if you sign up you should have some level of commitment to contribute. I'm not saying hang on every day at 7 or 8 or whenever to get your vote in and hang on every word but i am saying if you've got to post some and you sign up knowing you do you might actually ferret out a better vote. hell in 10 mins you can post 20 comments the way some carry on.

fair enough. it shoul d be next week in theory so I don't know when sign up end. i just floated this so it might happen. have to also find out who's running the show and what the show is.

 

The mrs (nm) started back at work yesterday so my time on here is somewhat dependent on the kids needs. I certainly can't commit to running one.

 

that's fair, that's no issue at all. its prob me or the volunteer

you can sign up and die early but then act stubborn and survive til end.... same as always.

She was die back around the time of the last game but she had lots of annual leave to use. She didn't tell me until just before we started playing so thought I may as well leave it in there anyway

Also didn't the Newcastle board do a similar one, if struggling for numbers might be worth asking the question I any of those are interested.

Here are some ideas for possible player roles and rules, designed to make the game more role-playing and realistic in terms of power bonuses and trade-offs.

NO LYNCH VOTE - people can vote not to lynch anyone (hint: very useful for the first night). This means innocents can stall for information gathering from investigators and mafia actually have to accuse people rather than sit back and do nothing while innocents accuse each other.

JOURNALIST - can investigate 1 person per night to find out their role. Can PM the game host at any point with an article to be immediately published by the host but the journalist's name will appear at the bottom of the article.

COP - can place any player in custody at any point during the day (1 arrest per day). They remain in custody until the next morning and cannot be arrested again until one day/night of freedom. While in custody a player cannot vote and cannot use their role powers. The cop's identity is publically known at the start of the game. Assassinating the cop (or a person in the cop's custody) has a 50% chance the assassin will also die. The cop cannot be recruited.

MAFIA HEAVY - can choose an innocent and force them to vote for a specific person (heavy PMs host, host PMs innocent, so identity is kept secret). The innocent must finish the night with a vote for the nominated person or else they die. The innocent cannot reveal they are being forced until after the vote, or they die during the night.

the cop thing is interesting. if we had two mafia teams or two assassinations i can see them hitting the cop right off but are you saying they could not investigate only.. lock up and by extension any mafia inactivity would therefore raise suspicion?

mafia heavy. i like that. a bit of intimidation sounds right down a mafia's street. something like "the mafia have told you to vote for x or they'll burn your house down with you in it...etc etc. i like that and i like the or else you die too.

I would be willing to run can't guarantee the time for regular updates like the voting tables

The cop would not investigate, and can be used to block someone who is being suspicious but without the extreme of killing them

(hint: the cop can also put an innocent person in protective custody to protect them from assassination)

 

So what we can do is

a) we can have a self running voting table. I'd ask for one table offically an hour before the vote but me and milk and i'm sure gerrez should keep one going during the day.
b) milk can show how/where to create off board areas to talk
c) we can look and see if thats enough........ stries and pics are nice to haves... but not strictly needed to run the game. the updating of op is important.

 

That could also cause a stalemate too with the majority of the Mafia voting no lynch too. They can sacrifice a pawn to kill someone with a last minute vote and no one would be any wiser as to who the other Mafia members were, plus they can still assassinate someone

I thought this was a great role last time, hence me saying it was the role I wanted (take note MITO ).

i like this suggestion, especially their identity being publicly known. I assume they are somehow protected from being assassinated?
