The Haddon Gold cup looks a very tough race tomorrow with you could make reasons for all 3 in the betting you gonna have to think that Cue Card will need the run Balders success and hinterland looked closely matched on form but am not going to go against Balders Success as I'm sure stick won't either. He won't mind the ground as he's won on Heavy right up to good and his run at Aintree was very solid and his jumping has been very consistent where as Cue Card can make the odd howler and will need to be at his very best to beat him, if it was at Ascot then you could have made a case for Somersby but feel he will get left behind by the. Top 3
I don't think Cue Card will need the run. I can't see Tizzard leaving him with much to work on after last season got cut short. I read somewhere that Tizzard took him on a racecourse gallop and thinks he is straight for the race. That for me is a massive thing, and I think he will edge out Balders Succes here.
2:15 Exe - God's Own 5/1 Needs to step up on what he's done so far but I can see this one pinching the race. Although this is a nice prize to win, Cue Card and Balder Success are likely using this as a stepping stone to bigger things. Not keen on Hinterland especially with Nicholls runners seemingly needing the run first time out. Somersby has been a fave of mine in the past but I feel has too much weight so at the prices I'm going with God's Own. 2:45 Exe - Carraig Mor 2/1 Novice chases can be a minefield but with the stable in decent form and seemingly excited to get this one's chase career started, I'm willing to take a small chance that we could have an exciting horse to follow over the winter months. Singles and a double. Good luck all!!
If he is as good as 100% as Tizzard said then he should win and the other will have to step up but the big word is if!
As much as love BALDER SUCCES and SOMERSBY I do not believe that Tizzard is going to leave CUE CARD short for this and he is a knocking good price. Best horse in the field and really should win.
Oscar Hill in the race looks a big negative for Cue Card, tends to jump like a dog when pressured for the lead. Hinterland probably doesnt want a yard further than 2 miles and Gods Own was in the right place at the right time with the right jockey at Punchestown. Balder Success looks the one. Mala Beach and The Tullow Tank the race of the day for me at Fairyhouse and you know where my money will be!
Hasn't Tizzard gone 6 months without a winner? At the prices why risk Cue Card? The reward's not big enough. Bad bet that imho even if he gets the result. I think The Tullow Tank was the 3rd best novice last year behind Vautour and Faugheen. He should be a monster over fences. I've backed him for the JLT and hope he'll win today before going on to the Drinmore in a few weeks. No bet though. His price is daft.
It will be a staggering performance from Cue Card to win this today over well short of his best trip and giving weight to very good young chasers. Surely anything short of 2m4f will be too sharp for Cue Card these days?
that's a good point Oddy but to be fair, he's probably as good over the shorter trip but SS forced him elsewhere.
Love to see Cue Card get the lollies today. He loves this place and in the past has gone well first up after a long break. Won over this trip here as well. Hopefully he'll be a bit on the fresh side today.
But surely a truly run gold cup is too much for him! I just don't think he will stay the distance but this trip is to short for him so were do you aim him at! He would get 3m at a flat track there were stamina issues last yr about him just wouldn't be confident in backing him for the gold cup in which he is unbelievably the 8-1 fav!!
He's the class horse in the race -hopefully will show it -as for stable form -a winner last week, a dead heat yesterday suggests that they are swinging into gear -cue the card!
Wooly, I am coming around to the view that he might just get away with it in the Gold Cup if the field is as weak as it looks on paper. He needs to prove he is fit and retains his ability, but I think we might actually see further improvement from him this season, and if he does I can see him being the one to beat at Haydock, Kempton and Cheltenham in the 3m+ grade 1s. Today is a handicap, and that is my concern, but also the reason for his price, he needs to be a good horse off 172, but I can't really say that anything else is thrown in on the handicap either. Balder looks handicapped higher than he should (lots higher than over hurdles when competing unsuccesfully in handicaps and 10lbs higher than Fox Appeal for less than 2 lengths in the Pendil), whilst God's Own also holds him on form and handicap marks. Somersby surely is handicapped to his best too, whilst Hinterland isn't to be trusted for me. Pepite Rose is handicapped fairly enough on her handicap form and Oscar Hill looks outclassed. I would think that perhaps God's Own is the horse that could be fairly handicapped, but I think Cue Card will have too much today.
