What the RS fans did not realise was that the rat + Sturridge and Sterling gelled and formed a formidable attack, arguably the best seen in the premiership for ages. If any other team had it, they would have won the title. Brenda obviously didn't realise that as he thought it was his genius managerial skills that had led to such an attacking team. He set himself to revamp the side when all he needed was to add 2 or 3 top class players to add to the team. Now he is starting from scratch and asking for time for the team to settle.... LVG spent a huge amount of money but that is not his f**ing fault. I fully expected United to pay between 30-50% over the odds for any player they bought. And though he didn't win against Chelsea and City there was no gulf in class. What very United supporter must recognise is that the manager needs TIME. I was prepared to give Moyes another season. It was not to be. Yes, I recognise that it will be inevitable that if LVG does not get a 4th place, there will a huge clamour for him to go. The press will lead it and the owners may panic too and fire him. And that would be another mistake. Just hope it doesn't come to that...
From the players that LVG himself has had a hand in buying (I exclude Shaw and Herrera whom I believe were done deals that he couldn't get out of - and neither of who I think he rates) we can see very clearly what sort of full-on attacking football that he wants us to play, unlike Moyes who would have been content to see his team play in just one half of the pitch. A couple more transfer windows and we will be back at the top.
Massive difference. Moyes took away the attacking style of United, leaving most true fans fed up with his boring style of football. At least with LVG we can see improvements
Yeah 150m of improvements, but worse at the back though Moyes did more with less, stop making excuses, you've looked just as or even more **** under LvG.
Yeh but we dont look ****. The results have been **** but the last 5 or 6 performances have been good and getting better. Van gaal also lost 4 very big players. 3 in defence. He brought 2 in but sorted the midfield first. A problem we have needed fixed for years. Hes added to the attack as well. Its maybe a little too much to expect a full overhaul in one window. The next two will focus on the defence. A lot of tye problems are out of his hands. He cannot help the decisions that go against us (theres been many) or the injuries. Hes not panicked though and has shown faitg in youth even when others are available. We now control the midfield in games, even against the leagues best midfields. Something moyes and fergie in his later years rarely managed. Controlling the midfield will lead to more victories than defeats over the course of a season. We are creating chances galore. Eventually we will put them away. This season is about getting back into the top 4. We are on course to at least challenge. 4 points with several og those sides to come in the next few months, its in our hands.
Agree on getting top four, or close enough to keep him in a job at least. Tbh like I said in the other thread, I think we could well be fifth if Southampton keep their form up and Arsenal hit their inevitable purple patch to keep in the top four. I think the difference is LVG's approach and mentality. Just like with SAF back in the late 80s, 99% of the fans and the board will support the manager if they can see progress and a strong attacking mentality in the side. Moyes didn't have either of those so was always going to go. If we're hovering around the fringes of the top four come the end of the season then LVG will probably get the same minority of fans claiming for his head as SAF had back in 1990, but as long as he finishes above Moyes I think he'll be safe.
To understand the true meaning of ****E as a football manager, try googling it, it comes up with Brendan Rogers esq.
Last season we had a "part time" season, no Europe, out of the League Cup early. We had a great attacking line up and came 2nd, came close to winning it only to slip up at the end. So what's your excuse?
No excuse needed, the league doesn't finish until May. Or is this just a smokescreen to take away your game tonight with some lesser known club in Europe?
Walk in the park tonight we'll smash them, put them in their place and then move on and batter the chavs.
Why would they want to take away from playing the biggest club side in world football? Better than having the week off I'd say.....
True, would rather play these games and lose than not play them at all. United are winning the league cos they are not in Europe though. The league table is lying
So Pellegrini is on the verge of being sacked because Man City are 3rd in the table and flopping in the Champions League? LVG and Man United have spent more on their current squad, sit 10th in the table and aren't even in the Champions League, yet he's under no pressure despite performing worse than David Moyes did? It's a funny old game.
Yep. It is a funny old game. It is all about hope. That unreliable but incredibly precious emotion. And expectations
If Pellegrini actually is under pressure (and he's not imo) then that's a load of crap. Just like Chelsea ditching Di Matteo for Benitez in November - didn't stop them going out of the CL and finishing 3rd in the league. I think it's natural that fewer questions will be asked of a new manager who took over a team that spent most of last season in crisis, versus a manager who won the (admittedly very poor) league at a canter and got out of an (admittedly weaker) CL group last year. But it's still too early, imo, for any manager of the clubs in the top half of the table to come under any real pressure.
