This thread has strayed away from anything to do with football and is heading towards politics, let's no go there.

For the past 18 months I've been working for a agency, but over last three months the hours have dwindled and I've been lucky to get two days.

I've last week I took a part time permanent job just get some stability and guarantee hours. That all the maths and worked out that I'm £8 better off then what I would be on JSA.

Wonder how many people have been on in similar position and just signed on.

I'd hardly say so. It's drifted from football certainly but it's hardly political, even if things get mentioned like minimum wage increase or proposed drop in income tax etc.

As long as it doesn't turn into "this party will do this they're the bestest, don't vote for them" or whatever there's no need to intervene. No need to get heavy handed.

The Tories are easily the best party, get in again and we can reduce the minimum wage for all these scruffy oiks.

I was just pointing out that it shouldn't go down that route, not that it had already.

The more that minimum wage goes up the less profit company's make. They put their prices up to get the same returns and then those on minimum wage are in the same predicament as before with the same disposable income as pre minimum wage increase.

It is a sad fact that greed rules the world.

Greed and corruption. Buying votes from the percentage needed to maintain power and ignoring all the rest like they don't exist. Of course how sustainable that is in the long run and whether people will just continue to put up with it has yet to be proven. It's certainly part of the us v them mentality that humans like to live on, that the tabloids exploit and that politicians use. People use their bigotry to give themselves more self assurance about themselves, that they are on the side of power, of respect. Their nightmare of course would be to fall out of that power class (represented by things like home and car ownership) and into the neglected/exploited/derided/abused group.

Most of the 'welfare' budget is spent on pensions , should they be reduced ? Don't people deserve a living wage to support their families ?

To get back on track, when the club has 10's of players earning ( questionable ) 10,000 + per week, to give the back room staff an extra 10 or 20 a week wouldn't hurt the overhaul budget very much.

Wage increases will always be paid for by increases to the customer! Everyone wants high wages but low prices! Being an employer myself I pay extra to people who have extra responsibilties, How many businesses have gone to the wall because of high wages and low return for the product they make or sell? If Someone pays £1 for something are they willing to pay £1.25 because the wages have gone up? ALLAM wouldn't pay the increase it would be passed onto the supporters as I would do.

It looks like some didn't read the article, so here's a part of it.

There is, of course, an army of low-paid labour that actually makes the show possible: cleaners, stewards and ticket takers, unpaid interns and volunteer mascots. Not merely ancillary to the real task of making money, catering staff are responsible for generating nearly 10% of Arsenal’s and Manchester United’s income.

For some clubs this work is deemed not even worth the minimum wage. This year HMRC fined an un-named club for making staff pay for uniforms and paying them less than the minimum wage, let alone the living wage; many other clubs have been warned. Even when within the law this is precarious – grinding employment with short inconvenient shifts and long journeys, not just for students and pocket money but for people trying to raise a family. Symptomatic of our economic elite, the Premier League has, so far, been able to treat the demand for the introduction of the living wage with a mixture of disdain, dissimulation and contempt.

Looks like its just you and me that think the multi million pound business football clubs paying their back room staff a pitance is wrong.

Did they not know the wage structure before they applied for the job? If they don't want to do it they should be looking elsewhere for another job! Or using it as a stop gap ( as most do ) until something better comes along.

Seems to be a trait of the 21st century when the victim becomes the guilty. Its now the workers fault for being low paid, perhaps he/she should have stayed on benefits. Meanwhile the bosses have so much money they don't know what to spend it on.
