But is there better out there for that money? The figures being quoted for Dann & Johnson (£10m each), Samba £12m and Cahil £15m. All good players but compared to £5m for O'Shea is not unreasonable IMO
I reckon deadline day a few arses might start nipping and a few cheap deals might come through. Ive said it in another thread and maybe in the minority hear but i would like Huth. If Stoke got Dann surely him or Shawcross wont wanna warm the bench and he can score a few too.
Would love O'Shea, for a number of reasons. Firstly, experience. The ability to keep his head under pressure and crack on and play the game. He's started Champs League finals- club football doesn't get bigger, and he'll be a great asset with that sort of experience. He'll be able to pass this composure under pressure on and I am of no doubt our younger players will hugely benefit. Personally, I think he'll be the sort of figure Bolo was last season- but he's still only 30 and could potentially hold that role for 4/5 seasons. Secondly- versatility. We haven't had the best of luck with injuries the past few seasons, and if we end up in another **** situation with either midfielders or defenders all out, it'll be great knowing he can competently fit in anywhere. Thirdly- ability. I think he'll be our first choice RB and Bardo will continue his development as a LB. Anybody questioning his ability is a total moron. Harsh, but true. Sir Alex Ferguson, the most successful British manager of all time, has picked Mr O'Shea to play for Manchester United more than 400 times. The lad has a Champs League, 5 Premiership titles, an FA Cup and three League Cups to his name, and he's only 30. And people are saying he's not good enough for Sunderland?! You simply don't play that many games and have that much success at the very very top level without being a good footballer. Great signing if it comes off.
Moron (psychology), disused term for a person with a mental age between 8 and 12, and a common insult for a person considered stupid. Maybe better words could have been used...
First of all this is a forum which are open for debates and that brings opinions. Opinions are like arse holes and everyone has one. Your opinion is you rate him, my opinion is i dont and would prefer a different player so calling me a moron you are clearly a prick
Our defence was poor the second half of last season and so far we have lost Onuha and Mensa. Not sure if Turner will be fit for the start of the season as he had a bd injury and then a set back. Did he need another operation or am I thinking of someone else? Anyway IMO John OShea will be a fantastic signing. The back four needs freshening up.
What is the source for this? Based on a viewing of a MU game in the latter stages of last season I fear O'Shea might be losing his speed. (I almost said legs but was fearful of your comments.) That aside, is our ability to sign players currently a response to our 10th place finish and the realisation among players that we could have finished higher but for injuries and the Bent departure?
i tell you whats funny the three man u players of which two are experienced champo league players there has been no problem with wages/ moving up north to sunderland a lesser team even though infact oshea especially was playing for the champions last year while down the road ngog refusing to move up north to a lesser club (no offence) despite not being a player at the team and not that experienced
I'm sorry Poolie Paul but you lost me there when you started to discuss Darren Williams and John O'shea in the same sentence and attemoted to link the two. As if one of the greatest ever world club managers would have a total duck egg in his team, for the best part of 10 years and over 255 games, if he was the same as DW. O Shea would be one of the best signings this club will make this season and will bring that Steve Bould quality of defensive organisation and calmness we have lacked for years. Bramble, Turner and Ferdinand will benefit hugely by having this lad here. Brown is another to be fair. If he is fit, he will also bring that air of confidence to the defence. Bruce is really pushing the boat out for me this summer and targeting some great team players. Our love affair may just be rekindled.....if he'll have me back? Lol
I have to say it makes me chuckle when I read about Man U rejects, if we are going to take rejects from anyone Man U would seem a good choice to me
Are they rejects Syd or immensley experienced players, who at 30 still have much to offer the likes of us. If Berbatov or Rooney moved on, would they too be rejects?
In no way do I see tham as rejects mate, just seen them called it in the past. I would take all 3, including Brown
Cest in no way shape or form was i trying to compare Darren Williams's ability to John O'Shea's, i was referring to them both being versatile.
They can be both can't they. Rejects for Man U. If they wanted to keep them we wouldn't have a chance. For Sunderland however, these lads could strengthen our squad depth considerably. After last season we can all see a need for strength in depth.
