If JRod has been offered an improved and extended contract (I think I read that this has been done but not absolutely sure) by the club and he has refused to sign it, I think that's a fair indication of his intentions.
As such we would be naive to hold onto him and allow him to run down his contract only to walk away on a free at the end of next season.
For me it would be an alter arum, sign the new contract or go (at the right price).

Nobody has disrespected him, just voiced an opinion or believe that he may want to go. He was very publicly offered a new contract a week or so before the last window closed.

And Jose..? Jack possibly..? What about Steven 'Forgotten' Davis..? ;)

Name on the front..? veho..? muvi..? :)

Personally, I think Morgan has blotted his copybook almost irretrievably, but I still would rather he stayed. There's going to have to be quite a few more victory signs and great-to-be-at-Saints tweets before I soften towards that young laddie again.

I'm obviously more shallow than you then TSS; Morgan's start to the season has made me completely forgive him. What tweet?

He did a Great To Be At Saints type tweet very soon after we started winning. When he started grinning after his second West Ham goal I thought I'd forgiven him, but I realise that I can't completely trust him anymore. I know he says he wants to stay now, and he's explained his reasons, but I also think he'll be up and gone at the very first opportunity to jump on a major bandwagon. If he turns down the opportunity to go and play for someone like Spurs [and he would do if he had any sense] then I'll be more inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Did the club confirm a new contract was offered? I only heard about it on Sky and the usual rags so was never sure if it was fact. Thought it was odd to offer an injured player a new contract when he still has more than 1 year to go and they'd said he wasn't for sale.

Why would the club confirm a player has decided not to sign a new contract they offered?

That wasn't the question. My question is has he actually been offered one or are we just believing the rags?

If I recall, the club actually made an official statement. It was unusual, but it was done during all the hype of MP wanting to sign him at Spuds.

Suarez had an exploratory op on his knee less than four weeks before playing against England in the World Cup, Jay could still be back well before Christmas.

Me too. I've completely forgiven as I would completely forgive anyone who puts 100% in wearing the Saints shirt. On the flip side you can enjoy something you are doing at the present time even if your plans are for it to be a short term thing. I still think he will be gone at the end of the season if a CL club comes in for him (even if we are in the CL.)

I don't know if they made an official statement, but it was so widely reported that I have a hard time believing the club didn't want to make it known. But at the time, it was vitally important that the club be seen as trying to hold on to their players. And given the uncertainty at the club, I could see Rodriguez not wishing to sign.

So it could very well have been a lowball-ish offer that the club knew Rodriguez would likely reject, but they could at least report they offered.

I tend to believe Rodriguez was inclined to leave the club during the summer (who can really blame him for having itchy feet?). At the same time, I think it is possible he could change his mind. If we make it to Champions League and Tottenham does not, or Pochettino gets sacked or turns his attention elsewhere, or we come back with an improved offer. A lot of things can happen between now and the end of the season.

Yeah, I'm always a "wait and see" person, there are too many unknowns about Jay's intention to have an informed opinion, unless someone has ITK infomation.

Of course, but there is nothing wrong with going one side of the fence or the other either. It makes for good discussion. Probably only Jay knows right now.

Jay is probably waiting to see how well he recovers as well and what his options are...both a new contract here and an offer from Spurs may be off the table by then. I just hope he has a full recovery (whether he stays here or not)...seems a nice lad.

I am pleased with the excellent application of Schneiderlin and to see his happiness, but he still makes me twitch. Once trust is lost it is hard to regain. The difference is that though he is integral to our success, I now know that we can survive without individual players. However, the portcullis coming down and trapping Morgan just as he was packing his cases was a turning point for this season.

Whatever happens its WIN/WIN for Saints. Either he stays and fulfils his potential or he goes, we double our money and buy someone better.
