http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...tish-soldiers-advanced-bloody-WW1-battle.html Can't copy and paste the text as I'm on a phone, but well worth 5 minutes of your time. As a side note, I'm aware of the legendary christmas day football match in no mans land, but not sure of it actually took place. Would appreciate any information or links on that subject.
FourFourTwo did an article on it a year or two back, from memory I'm pretty sure there are records of the game including a sort of match report by one of the players. I don't think there's any doubt it took place.
I recently watched a 2012 episode of Antiques Roadshow from Farnborough and it featured a letter from a witness to the game. I just watched the segment again on my computer the link is http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p011ffck
This website outlines the main evidence for the game taking place. http://www.christmastruce.co.uk/football.html
Cheers guys, you've sorted out my Sunday afternoon.
That is an entirely different incident. The OP was where a ball was kicked across no-mans land while under fire, not the match in your link. It was during the Battle of Loos which was Sept-Oct 2015.
For evidence of the Chrismas knockaround, this is irrefutable proof:
Oops. Was that sidenote an edit as I clearly didn't see it. Tuckin: I agree. I'm not a big fan of Paul McCartney either.
