I really couldn't give a **** about your views Stan, posting that on that thread was an act of ****ery seldom seen on this forum.

To be honest I don't think there's any need for on it on that thread. If you have something negative to say then start your own thread.

I've not really come across white poppies before, but I've had a look and they've been around officially since the 1930s, originally intended to be an anti-war statement.

However, the British Legion has this to say:

"There is no message of glorification. What you wear is a matter of choice, the Legion doesn't have a problem whether you wear a red one or a white one, both or none at all. It is up to you. We don't comment on matters spiritual, poppies are there for the benefit of the living."

So as a neutral in this debate; why do people feel the need to be outraged/offended by something that the British Legion aren't bothered about?

Stan's picture was showing the white poppy complementing the red poppy, not replacing. I'm sure someone will explain further but from what I can see, it wasn't necessarily disrespectful per se, unless the intention was there to disrespect.

From what I can tell, its a media led dislike campaign.

At the end of the day I think Stan posted it to get a reaction and he got one.

    It was removed.

Everyone's happy, or at least they should be.

Saying that I suppose if posts are going to be deleted a quick explanation from the mod deleting it wouldn't go amiss.

I won't comment on the post in question, as it wasn't me, but I agree with what you say in principle, I'm just not sure how it would work in practice.

I have on many occasions PM'd a poster with my reasons, generally when it wouldn't be clear why I did it, for example their post was responding to one that had been removed for breaking the rules, so their's looked daft as a stand alone.

Posting it on the board could (on occasions) end up with it cluttered with mod posts and arguments, on the flip side, it would (or at least should) help counter allegations of bias.

Again, I don't disagree with the principle, but I'm open to suggestion on how it would work in practice.

I remember being taught about the white poppy at school and we where taught that it was a symbol of peace.

    All fair points Dutch.

Maybe more ambiguous ones like Stans could have quick explanation but I guess what is ambiguous and what isn't is open to interpretation in itself.

I don't think Stan meant to cause offence as such, I'm an ex Bill Oddie and it didn't offend me.
