I agree with the above. Amazing in the first season but I think the club saw the decline coming , hence the signing of osvaldo. And ultimately the acceptance of liverpool's bid. As people have said before he would have gone to west ham in January if osvaldo hadn't flopped and then gone mental.

What I cannot understand is why Liverpool signed him. Rodgers clearly does not rate him at all because he plays balotelli regardless of how awful he plays. I can only assume he has less of a say on transfers than he claims. Or an attempt to weaken potential upstarts (not rivals as we clearly weren't come the end of last season )

I find the comparisons intriguing between the two. They're both both big guys, both very humble and very likeable, both have more to their games than being mere target men. They've both had interesting careers and come up through the ranks based on hard work. They've both had to step up to new challenges and they've both made the national squad in later life. They both score goals.

Basically, its like the club looked specifically for a new Rickie Lambert and they found him in Eredivise. I seem to feel, like everyone else, that it couldnt have worked out better.

Yes. I have to admit that I can't imagine Ricky being a great dancer. I suspect he'd be like your dad at a disco!

I wondered about this at the time, and I'm even more mystified now. It was always hard to see how he was going to fit in with Liverpool's highly mobile forward line. He was always going to be on the fringes, but now I look and I think "what's he got to do to get a game."

It's now increasingly evident that Liverpool over achieved last season due to one man anyway.

SRL's achievements for the club have been the greatest since Matt Le Tiss and are beyond comparison with anyone at the club at this moment in time although SKD and Jose are not far behind.
Without Rickie's phenomenal goals and assists record and his talismanic presence in the team it is likely that we would not be in the Premier League now.
Graziano's start has been tremendous and makes me glad that I backed him £10 E/W to be the Premiership top scorer this season @ 100/1!

I think he was a makeweight for the next transfers.

Mobility was never lamberts game, unfortunately Liverpool can't afford to go with one striker up front (who isn't mobile), whereas we could as we played More or less a front 3 (Lallana rodriguez and lambert) whilst they play a front 4 (2 wingers, striker, someone of the striker), hence balotelli who supposedly can hold it up and play as well as having pace. When Sturridge returns we will see even less of lambert unfortunately. Still a good player to have on the bench although I fear he will be seen as a lump up front if he starts coming on regularly with 2 minutes to play or something

Do you mean a way of getting more for Lallana without it being added on to his fee (and avoiding sell on)? If that were true I would have thought his fee would have been higher and Lallana's fee lower?

If not I cannot understand why a "makeweight" was needed for the Lallana and Lovren deals

more likely a move to unsettle our players and make Liverpool the most attractive destination than a makeweight.

Either that or Rodgers is overrated.

Lambert could play wide or a lot deeper than Pelle, who seems more of a box player. Both have scored copious amounts of goals for us, however lets see how Pelle is doing after another season or two. Lambert's vision and passing ability, plus his number of assists was invaluable.

I don`t know either why Rodgers bought Rickie. I assumed it was for a plan B - but then he hardly plays him when plan A isn`t working.

I'd quite like both right now - Rickie would be the perfect replacement for Pelle when he tires/picks up an injury.

If I was Koeman, I'd put a loan bid in for Rickie in January.

A small part of me is looking forward to when Pelle misses a game.... Long, Mane and Tadic could rip a poor back four apart.

    Pelle, about 5 years ago.

That way we might have kept Rickie and we wouldn't be in the ****ing Conference <cry>

By the way, bloody well done on what you've achieved - less than 6 years ago we beat you with a late Andy Williams goal at St Marys and now look where our respective clubs are <wah>

    <ok>
