Oh behave MITO ffs, the guy has flushed his entire career down the toilet with us and won **** all, when he could have had it all with Real or Chelsea (god forbid). He's been a loyal servant, give him a little bit of respect. I can't fault anything he's said, and if we are trying to chip down his wages then he's entitled to look elsewhere.
He's still taking £140k a week off you at 34. Liverpool have made him a multi millionaire, so he's hardly 'flushed his career down the toilet'
Kinda moving off point really, its not about what he has or hasn't won or how much he has made, its about coming out with threatening to leave, if we don't give him what he wants. Doesn't sit well with me. We are not playing well as a team and this just belittles the club. Maybe we are looking too much into it, but he hasn't played well this season, imo, so he needs to fight for a right for an extended contract
Believe it or not, some player value trophies more than money I'm not Gerrard's biggest fan but it would be a shame for him to leave. I just wished Rodgers could see that he's not good enough to be starting every game for us, and simply manage him better. He stills bring experience and I'm sure the younger lot look up to him, so having that influence (at least in the dressing room/training ground) is needed especially considering we're a very young team. Either way - massive respect to him because he was a world class player. At the moment, I feel he is a liability to the team style and it shows. However, that's because of age and being put in a position that is simply not suited to inherent style.
I don't think it's a threat to the club. Call me naive but he's probably been asked what he seems himself doing after this year and he's said I'm out of contract so if I don't get a new one I'll have to look elsewhere as I don't want to retire. Perfectly reasonable for me
Do they? Do you think Liverpool would give Gerrard another years deal tomorrow if he'd take £20k per week?
That's only if you take it as a threat. Maybe he was just being honest, why shouldn't he be? He doesn't owe us anything so as far as I'm concerned he can do as he sees fit.
I read it three times before responding You was quoting "Believe it or not, some player value trophies more than money" and questioned it. Surely you should have put: Would Gerrard take £20k per week if Liverpool offered it? Obviously Liverpool would give Gerrard £20k per week if he'd take it, it represents a £100k pay drop
You read it wrong, as it means exactly the same thing ffs, get over it pedant My point was simple, if it's all about the opportunity for glory and not the cash, then surely an agreement could be reached that was suitable? As if he'd take £20k then he'd get a contract no bother. Ergo as it stands he patently wants more of what he's already on, otherwise it'd have been done and dusted by now. So it's not glory first, money second......
That's his point. If Gerrard would accepted £20k per week then he would already have a new contract, and wouldn't be using the tabs to try and fish for one. Ergo he is not willing to accept that much money, and thus disproves Jimmy's argument that he cares more about trophies than cash. Particularly as he's not going to win any more trophies for Liverpool
And you know this how...? Do you serious think he's contacted someone and said "here, print this threat for me". He's obviously been asked a question and he's answered it as honestly as he could. #moutainoutofamolehill
I hate this "one last pay day" bullshit that once great players get accused of when they move on after they can't hold a place in their team any longer. Doesn't it occur to anyone that they might just like playing football, and feel that they still have something to offer? The man's a multi-millionaire- why would squeezing a few more shekels out of anyone be his prime motivation? Also, Gerrard is one of the best players I've seen in 50 years of watching the club, and it depresses me to see the amount of **** that gets thrown at him from our own fans.
Mate the trolls can't resist, as to our own fans it's the impatience of youth I think The interview was actually done for a broadsheet not a tabloid
