Smug tells me he is off for good, as the board is no longer something he wants to be involved with. One of the reasons is my failings as a mod and when I suggested he might like to give it a go, instead of leaving, he suggested a poll to give everyone a bit of a laugh for old times' sake. So here it is!

Why not, he can give it the time the job needs. And when a couple of pisstake threads go to far and start spilling onto the rest of the board, completely ****ing the whole place up in the process, I think he'll have the backbone to step up and nip it in the bud, not wait for WMS to come and actually do something, then hide behind him whilst giving his backing.

I've said only when a vacancy is available, too many cooks and all that, but I think the present set of mods should have a think weather they've got the time, heart and love for the board to step up and take the steps bring peace back when things spiral out of control.

WMS is a ****ing Don, we're lucky to have a mod like him, he's set the bar no doubt, if i was Marcus he'd be the mod I'd be looking to learn from.

To be honest, it should have nothing at all to do with him being a mod. It's the fact that the current mods are just letting the board go to ****e without doing anything about it. I know the mods have their work cut out atm and I respect them normally for doing their job for nowt, but this has been going on for a week now and it seems they've all turned a blind eye.

The lunatics are taking over the asylum.

Got to exclude Marcus. He's new to the role and has had a baptism of fire, he'll have been looking to experienced to mods to see how they handled it. WMS' too, he's been concussed most of the last week, he comes back online and in 24 hours of his moderation the place has calmed right down.

I don't envy anyone who moderates this forum a difficult and thankless job in my view, regarding Smug it's a bloody shame if really has decided to leave - couldn't say either way if he'd make a good Moderator, so I'll abstain on the vote - the question I'd like to ask you Sid do agree with Smugs opinion that you have failings as a MOD?

Well I wont vote as I'm a Newcastle fan so it's not my business who mods your board.

I always liked Smug (not that he's now dead or anything so past tense seems a touch extreme?) and found him to be good banter. He can go OTT at people sometimes but not as much as people do to him, I've found him to be pretty fair and would be a loss if he does go.

Would he be a good mod? My gut feeling is that he would hate it pretty quickly so I'd so no on that basis but if he was willing then I actually think he'd do a decent job at keeping the wums in check. Maybe heavy handed though which isn't how this board has tended to be but going off recent events it may be better to go a touch that way?

Ah well more to the point if you are leaving Smug then keep well, you will be missed and are welcome to come and rip me plenty when Newcastle get roundly stuffed in the Final of the League cup by Derby.

I class myself as a friend of Smug and I have voted no...I feel somehow that he wouldn't have the patience to put up with some of the **** that the mods have to deal with..

Smug and I did a 180 u-turn on this board, around a year ago. Before that we tore chunks out of each other regularly for fun. I misunderstood his sense of humour and he mistook my intentions, but since we ironed out our differences I've probably not laughed at anybody on this board more than him and his daft ****ing posts.

He's a down to earth bloke contrary to his username, he'd bend over backwards for any of you lot, I know this because he's extended that same generosity to me, and I'll possibly never meet the bloke!

You've got to look after your own on here, and you've unanimously got to back your mods if they make a decision for the good of the board.

I'm not sure which thread you mean mate, but i've had pms of angst about his own life, faith in his club and the fans so I can guess how it reads. Then he drifts in and out of threads with little sporadic cheap shots. He can get to f**.

There's no doubt that Smug's a silver-tongued lothario, but one has to question if he has the moral integrity to be a mod. In a moment of weakness, I fell for his irresistible charms and now find myself with child. He gallantly claimed that he would stand by me when I informed him, but I now find that he's offski with nary a word to me, the mother of his future child.

I genuinely fear what the future holds for me as a single, black mother. Smug is just the last in a long line of men to take advantage of my generous nature, heaving bosom and insatiable libido. I'm not a Sunderland fan, so wouldn't want to unduly influence your vote. I only entreat you to ask yourself if this is the sort nefarious, fly-by-night character that you want representing you.

    With respect,
    Miss Thokozile Masipa
    - a wronged woman.

Why thank you kind sir, concussed maybe, comatosed more like, my eye got worse as the week went on, closed up by tuesday. Anyway, smug is a class poster who knows exactly how to tow the line to perfection, there have been calls to ban him, we even stuck a thread on the mod board asking for advice on the matter and there is nor was there any justification for doing so, i for one hope he doesnt leave, as for being a mod, i chose possibly, if there was a probably not i would have chosen that, gets in too many scrapes and loves it too much, he anhialates posters with ease, so much so they cant even see it

    Dont go smug

Love him or hate him, this forum has been a better place with him on it. I would assume that his postings on this forum have probably generated far more heated discussions on here than everyone else put together. And isn't that the sole purpose of a forum? To debate?

I hope he doesn't leave. I'm assuming he'll look in as a guest, as I've done over the last few months or so, and after a while get dragged back into it when something is said that he just has to respond to. Like me.

I'm sure the guys at V-Joe's wedding will try and persuade him back on Monday, though no doubt he'll be a stubborn bugger and cause more arguments there (though not in front of Mrs V-J!!)

I don't think its Smug's place to dictate who should or shouldn't be a Mod. It's a thankless task anyway and we should appreciate the job these guys do. Love them or hate them, take them to task, disagree, vehemently at times if necessary, but don't forget they do this in their own time, gratis.

At the same time, the Mod's should remember that this is a football forum first and foremost. This place has lost its way, good posters have disappeared and have been replaced by some who don't have the, hate to use the word but will anyway, respect, that most of us would like to see. It's become a shouting house where the loudest and most abusive now seem to hold the centre ground.

I think the Mod's need to get together and try and set a set of rules that they can all be consistent on. I'm sure they do talk, I'm just not sure their discussions are focussed on this issue at this moment.

I wasn't aware WMS had been concussed. Hope your getting better pal and that your return brings some semblance of normality back to the forum.

I won't vote on this. I don't think this is the sort of thing we should be voting on though I'm sure many of you will disagree on that.

Whilst I won't "formally" vote on it, in my opinion Smug would be a lousy Mod! Far better to have him this side of the bar where he can have his say, which is a hell of a lot (!!!) and not feel hindered by his role as a Mod.
