He could be the best behaved prisoner, but if he bulks at his sentence plan he won't be going anywhere till his whole term is up.

These days SP's are the most important factor, and to be honest the people tailoring them for each individual are thick as ****, the OM's (offender managers) are allocated offenders radomly and set the plans before even meeting the individual . An example that comes up more often than most - If the prisoner was under the influence of alcohol when the crime was commited the OM will just assume they are an alcoholic and put them on various courses with other alcoholics/addicts.

When I worked as a drug worker in the prisons this was so frustrating and I fell out with the whole OMU (offender management unit) at HMP Guys Marsh due to it. I was running programmes for full blown addicts/alcoholics and the thick ****ers at OMU would SP prisoners that just happened to be out in a pub one night and got into a fight and commited an offence, yet they hadn't had a drink for sometimes a month beforehand. So I'm trying to work with everyday addicts and I end up with half the group being normal social drinkers. The OMU simply don't do any ****ing research and just use SP's as a tick box exercise.

Often this leads to a complete logisical nightmare to. For example if they have to do the PASRO course but they are in a prison that doesn't run the course they have to complete some of the courses in one prison and then get a transfer to a different prison just to do a course that they don't even benifit from <doh>

I'm pleased I now work in the community and everyone that comes to me is purely voluntary - with the rarity being someone on a DDR or ATR, and even very rarely due to social services. But 95% are there because they've chose to be. Which is the complete opposite of working in prisons with people that either don't need the course or have no intention of giving up!

Just had a text from his brother. His brief says he'll get a suspended sentence and community service.

Why Crown court then, unless he is going to get 2 yrs suspended. Suspect he will go down, never believe lawyers.

Seriously though, if he did as was portrayed, he needs to be taking a toothbrush to Crown court.

  7. With what RHC said, if he doesn't get sent down he's going to get put down anyway

If he doesn't get locked up are there some types who will be out looking for retribution in the area?? I'd imagine he'll have to be very careful about where he roams if he goes free.

Early December, I think. Will they have taken his passport off him?

Depends on the conditions of his bail.

He's got a bezzie mate in Spain. Been there on holiday with him before. If they haven't, I'm worried he may 'do one'.

That wouldn't be a smart move, as eventually he'd end up paying his dues, only longer........Plus in the interim he'd spend every waking moment looking over his shoulder.

In any case, given he's likely to be facing a custodial, the odds are he'd have had to hand it in as a condition of his bail.

She wasn't working, but she ended up staying down. I went back in at about 7.30 pm and she was still there on the sambuca <yikes> She's working this afto an'all <laugh>

  19. Wasn't there a law change a few years back meaning being abroad no longer makes you "safe" so to speak? If caught then you get dragged back to serve your time plus some for running?

If he's been found guilty :)huh:) and he's just awaiting the sentencing then its unlikely he will have his passport still.

He'll simply be extradited when found. Spain was a haven for crooks in the late 70's / early 80's, as the old extradition treaty with the UK expired and the 'Costa del Crime' was born. However, there's been a new treaty in place for nearly 30 years, and it's no longer a safe haven.
