We certainly didn't deserve that pen, all things considered. How do we miss these passes? Such a good chance, and Townsend hits it too hard.
Townsend beats their whole team and then messes up the final ball. Not a bad summary of his Spurs career so far, really. Soldado penalty decision? Looked possible to me, but I didn't expect it to be given. They've had a couple of calls and Clattenburg's that sort of ref.
2-0, Kane. Soldado still can't put it away, but Kane's there to snap up the rebound. He's good at that.
Crouch sent off for Stoke, so he'll miss their game against the Spam. Southampton score from the resultant free-kick. Guess who got it? Yep.
Not the prettiest goal. It ricochets off both the keeper and Soldado before falling to Kane, who has looked a bit tired, I think.
Harry Kane getting the Robbie Keane song rejigged for him. He's got quite a few tunes already. Deserves them. Townsend replaced by Chadli.
And promptly gives the ball away, then pulls out of a challenge in the middle of the park, allowing them their first shot on target.
2-0, FT. First half crap, second half better, but still a bit crap. Nice to get through, but we were far from spectacular and the same narrow, aimless style was evident, again. The commentators mentioned that we've played more games than anyone else. I wonder if that's slowing down our progress, as the manager won't have had too much time to work on things? Probably not, eh?
Did what we needed to do without setting the world on fire tonight. Hopefully we can build on some encouraging performances moving forwards. I think Kane has to start at the weekend and Townsend looked a potent threat on the rare occasions when he dribbled with the ball and looked to pass rather than always shooting. Stambouli was my MOTM because he did all the dirty work in midfield tonight that helped us to maintain so much pressure, and looked decent enough on the ball too. A Spurs side with the right midfield combination our of our current players (maybe Capoue-Mason-Eriksen as a 3) and two wingers willing to get at fullbacks but also capable of varying the play a bit would look good IMO. We could even go 2 up top in the right situations.
