My dad's father was a sea captain and brought his wife out of Russia (Archangel, possibly) around the time of the Russian Revolution. She was Jewish, but my dad wasn't brought up in the faith, so nor was I.
My great-great grandmother was an ethnic German. She left Germany for England shortly before World War I after her first husband died and married my great-great-grandfather in Hull. Her religious life went summat like this: Catholic > Jewish > Anglican
I can live with people saying if they're Jewish/part Jewish/mother was Jewish etc, it's only when religion starts getting debated that it all turns to ****.
You ****s on the rise? You know I've turned my hand to Islam and Amishness in the past but couldn't get passed a few aspects of those particular religions. I might give Judaism a pop next. Can Jews sup booze?
I worked on those houses to convert them into flats, including the one that was rebuilt after the fire, the bricks to match were 5 times the price of normal sized bricks, they are indeed massive, when you consider they were built to house one family, now converted into 7 flats in each house
Well, now - back to the subject. I didn't see the prog, but I'm wondering where this 'Dream House' is? St. Ninian's Walk is a foot/cycle path from Ella Street end to Chants Ave. I remember it as a kid in the Avenues and the lonely section from Viccy Ave to Ella Street was a bit scary, especially near where it went over the old drain (Foredyke Stream?) that went up the back of Ella Street, crossed Prinny and went up one side of Queens Road. The drain is filled in, but where is the housing? (If I remember, there were a couple of houses opposite the end of Viccy Ave., on the railway side of St. Ninian's)
