City........ ..... 14 ....... 9 ....... 5 ....... 0 ..... 32 pne......... ..... 14 ..... 9 ........ 4 ...... 1 ....... 31 HOME to Oldham Rochdale v PNE............ ...WE COULD BE 2ND!
So what! Their run of wins has to come to an end sometime, as does our unbeaten run!! Why's everyone getting so hyped up about it!!!
WHO'S GETTING HYPED just basic chit chat with an awareness of whats going on around us.. means we aint going to implode into a cauldron of dispair when the inevitable happens.. .. W E L O S E
next Tuesday Swindon play PNE THAT COULD BE A CRACKER, ITS THE GAME THAT BRINGS THE TOP HALF A DOZEN CLOSER SAME NUMBER OF GAMES PLAYED
Didn't think I was getting hyped- Just looking forward to what should be a huge game against Preston in a few weeks time- Their form and ours are the reason we are first and second.
I believe that the significant thing from tonights results is that both away wins were gained without conceding a goal. Not a complaint, just a statement of fact, that if we could do that, our progress to promotion would be a little easier!
PNE don't draw many games which is why they are right behind us. They beat Orient last night who were without 7 or so first team regulars. Our home draw with the O's still looks like our worst result of the season.....
I don't know if you mean ''hyped up' over our unbeaten run, or PNE catching us.... On our unbeaten run; yes, it's nice, but speaking from my own personal perspective, I would MUCH rather we had lost 3 of our 6 draws and won the other 3 - we would have 3 more points by now if we had done that - plus some of the other teams would not have the incentive of beating the only unbeaten side in English football each time they play us. You see, (again, speaking for myself only), for me, the MAIN aim should be to recover our championship place. Yes, it's nice being top and unbeaten, but if we come second and get beaten 6-0 along the way by someone I will consider the season a success. We had the reigns a few weeks back, but now by drawing games we have let PNE catch up to the extent that they could overtake us by winning their game in hand. That on its own would still leave us second, but the remaining pack are also closing in. We can see by looking at the changing shape of 3rd-7th place how many of those teams are all bunched up. What I am saying I suppose is that the biggest threat to our current position is complacency - if we take the attitude that 'it aint broke so don't fix it' then we will find out very soon how costly shipping 2 goals a game really is - because we will NOT score 3 or even 2 every game for ever. Happy with being top for now, but I want to be there at the END of the season. We need to improve if we want to stay there, because we are NOT the best team in the league any more based on current form.
agreed we did have a run of -0 but last few games we seem to have faltered, however individually, we are who we are and I just like playing with numbers, and they do show trends, so it "looks on paper" how "poor" we may be faring....first 10 games seemed OK BUT THEN LOLLED INTO THE DENSE OF SECURITY of points on the board, as we played 2 games more, but in all honesty our points on the board were only 2 the last 2 draws, so PNE wins a game and has those back already, Saturdays result apart/same, PNE win next Tuesday and we are second! it is sad to think that is how it works...but hey ho keep the losses down to single figures come game 46 and we will thereabouts . we aint the best team full stop!
Leading the table is added pressure for us to a degree because everyone naturally wants to try and beat the top team. I'd be quite happy with PNE or someone taking the lead for a couple of months as long as we are tucked in right behind them It would take the pressure off of us
In the 1964-65 promotion season, we beat Oldham at Ashton Gate on the last day of the season 2-0 to gain promotion. On a (dark and probably wet) night in the preceding October, we lost at Boundary Park 3-7. So even with that sort of hiding promotion is possible. I am not predicting that Oldham will repeat that sort of misery this weekend.
Who is then? Last time I looked we was top. So what if Preston have a game in hand at this precise time we are top. As to Preston don't draw many, they've drew 4 we've drawn 6 so if as I predict they draw against Swindle they would be 5 to our 6 but also with a loss compared to our none.
We are getting closer lads and lasses but as someone rightly pointed out, it' next May when it counts, still need 19 points to avoid the drop
