As for EoD - no real strong feelings about it, tbh.

Totally agree on that. I'll chuck a couple of other covers. The Damned -'White Rabbit and Devo - Satisfaction. I think it was once said that the best covers are distinctly different from the originals and those two certainly are.

God knows what my favourite cover is or what’s ‘the best of all time’ – how can such a thing be declared anyway?

    This is great though:

Hendrix doing Johnny B Goode is still the ultimate for me.

There's no point in covers that are just copies of the original. My top 3 are all in this top 10, which makes them unnervingly populist:

    1 - Sinead O'Connor Nothing Compares 2U
    2 - Johnny Cash Hurt
3 - Soft Cell Tainted Love.

    Totally agree.

That's why I love Hendrix. He could turn a folky soft acoustic song into a psychodelic rock song without losing the feel of the song.

This one (from Heaven 17's Glenn Gregory) will have a few of you screaming "Sacrilege!" But I like it...

His interpretation of Star Spangled Banner is ridiculously brilliant.

U2's version of the Beatles ' Helter Skelter' is pretty good.
