Deep down I think you all know Gus isn't the problem. The problem is Oshea and Brown. If SAFC went out and spent 10 mio on a top top centre half, you'd quickly become a competitive team on the up. But the fact that you've been sticking with these two oldies that are half fit most of the time and can't organise a defence has cost you dearly. Both of them were greatly aided in their career by playing alongside players like Ferdinand and Vidic, who would tell them, and the other 2 defenders where to go and what to do. The young goales don't help either.
Read that Gus got 45 points from his first 38 games. That would finish around 11th 12th so hes done well considering the mess he inherited. But its a cut throat business and Short will judge him on our form till Christmas I reckon.
I don't think Gus has done too bad. Bit disappointing to have lost Bardsley and Ginger as well due to contracts running down. Defo need new centre back pairing and we were a little slow as there were a couple of potential players up for grabs. Fannied on too long after that Italian scouse bloke when we could have been spending the money elsewhere. Certainly keep Gus for at least another full season or we just go back to square one again and waiting for the next manager to bring his "own" team in.
