Is the game all just a big psychological plan to keep everyone docile?

Breaking it down to its bare components its a group of blokes trying to get a ball thru 3 pieces of wood into a net as many times as possible whilst trying to stop another group of blokes getting a ball thru 3 pieces of wood into a net. A group of millionaires (tossers) in the premier league try to do this. A group of much poorer people struggle to save up their money (or pieces of paper) to watch the millionaires attempt to do this. Some of the less well off travel the length and breadth of the country in the hope that the millionaires might win 'us' an imaginary point or even better an imaginary three points in an imaginary league. If the millionaires are successful they may well then treat the less well off individuals by holding an inanimate object , a cup, high in the air for them all to applaud despite the fact that the less well off and less affluent individuals will have cups of their own in their kitchens that they could easily ask someone to hold in the air for them if they need to applaud a cup. Er, going on a bit, so the question is in the title.

I think it's 3 pieces of metal intricately welded together but, in essence, that makes it one pieve of metal!!

Who cares, it's a bit of fun meeting up with decent people, having a few pints and being distracted for a few hours.

No different to listening to music, watching shows or having a bonfire night party & BBQ.

Do I really want to simulate burning Catholics alive ...... not really, it's just a bit of fun.

Would I rather spend my time with earnest dreary 'rebels' plotting to rise up and overthrow the government?

I'd rather watch f**ing paint dry tbh ..... if they achieved their goals they'd make a right **** up of it anyway <ok>

Well I thought I'd offer something a little more than just 'No' this time.

    As for your OP...

I sometimes think along the lines of this when we are doing badly, but when we are doing well??? Don't talk bollocks! I dare say you would not have posted this if we had won our last 5 games off the belt!!!
