Amazing how many clubs have new grounds when you look at the whole league

England's lost football grounds - Part II

A BBC News article exploring the fate of England's lost football grounds last week drew an overwhelming response from readers and on social media. Here we look at some of the other clubs whose former stadiums are gone but certainly not forgotten.

Millwall: The Den. Closed in 1993 (interesting the universal wearing of caps by men back in that era - just a few lads at the front without one)

We should definitely wear hats more often, like they did in the old days.

I also note that a number of men also tires, so a visit to the football ground was perhaps akin to church back then?

Regarding the "cup tie replay between Millwall and Southend in 1923" caption in that photo, I was curious as to the result, but couldn't find any FA Cup replay fixture between those clubs for that year - perhaps it was another cup tie - sounds like a Bushman type question?

Perhaps our lot should be given Bovril at half-time to improve their fitness?

I think it must have been a league game. It seems teams generally played home and away against each other on consecutive weeks in them days. Perhaps the reporter's seen the home and away fixtures next to each other and assumed a cup replay?

The Old Den had the scariest approach of any ground I've ever been to: http://the-den-cold-blow-lane.blogspot.co.uk/

I see what you mean, the tunnel beckons - looks like a good place to get rumbled or rocks thrown down on you!

Thanks for posting, that's an interesting site. It really brings home how absolutely vital it is that we move to a larger more modern stadium. As much as I love the place, Loftus Road even today, wouldn't look out of place alongside some of those old grounds like Elm Park and Filbert Street.
