Swansea Cityâs Under-15s took on the might of Europe in a Category One tournament earlier this month. The Academy â a Category Two side â were offered the slot earlier this year when Tottenham pulled out and qualified for the finals in August after topping their group - beating Bolton and Stoke before drawing their final game against Liverpool. The Academy ended up drawing West Brom, Manchester City and last years winners Hertha Berlin in the next phase. The Swans started the tournament on the Friday afternoon with a 1-0 win over West Brom thanks to a great individual goal from under-14 academy product Craig Davies. But the young Swans then suffered back-to-back defeats against Hertha Berlin (5-0) and Manchester City (3-0). Assistant Head of Youth Anthony Wright said: âThe last defeat definitely was not a reflection on the way we played, we matched them for possession and had some good shots on target. The boys did myself and everyone at the club proud." The Swans next went into a draw to find out their final position and beat Newcastle in their match on Sunday 1-0 thanks to a goal from attacking midfielder Jack Fox. Wright added: âOverall, it was a fantastic experience for our boys, all our players did really well throughout the whole tournament. âWhen we look back over the course of the whole tournament we played seven category one teams - one of them an international side - and we won four, lost two and drew one. âIt shows that as an Academy we are going in the right direction."
