This may take off or it may not but people in football do talk a lot of nonsense and from time to time it is actually very funny nonsense.

Now you wouldn't think that Portsmouth Manager, Andy Awford, is a particularly funny chap but this actually made me laugh (out loud)!

Following their defeat to Shrewsbury yesterday he was interviewed on Radio Solent and came up with this gem.

"I've just said to them if you're going to get beat, you get beat the right way and they did today."

    Inspirational team talk!

I didn't realise there was a "right way" to get beat?

Although thinking about it I suppose:

"Wrong way" - Sunderland last week
"Right way" - Saints vs Liverpool?

    Still a weird sentiment

Not so much Foot in Mouth but my favorite manager to hear talk is Mick Mcarthy. Average Manager but makes me laugh with some of the stuff he says.

Made better by the commentator at the end ;)

I remember Saints beating a Mick McCarthy team 6 - 0 and he said there was some "positives they could take" from it.

Imagine the positives they could have taken from a win!

Hard to beat Jonathon Pierce last weekend, referring to Gary Monk as Harry Monk (for those who don't know, Harry Monk is rhyming slang for...well, you can probably work it out).

Nigel Adkins was a specialist in this department, look how he wound Brighton up.

I thought Koeman said something brilliant the other week during a presser: We don't party when we win and we don't make **** when we lose.
Excellent, and typically laid back Dutch.

The master of the crap response is Ron Manager.

AND the Sunderland 50 mile trip AND the 6-3 shirt change.

Pierce is a bellend, hate him commentating.

Used to love Pierce's commentary, but these days he's lost an edge, I think. Still way better than Motty though, who has been rubbish throughout his career. I even hate myself for falling into the affectionate term Motty, when I should be saying Motson or nerdly twerp.

These days I like commentators like Guy Mowbray and John Roder for the excitement they put into their commentary. I hated Alan Green for years, but recently, when he did the League Cup commentary for Arsenal v Saints, on Radio5 Live, he was excellent. I get it now. He's a great radio commentator.

Football on the radio really shouldn't work, in all honesty, but he makes it work really well.

I quite like Motson. Hate Pierce mostly because he just shouts too much for everything. Throw ins, corners has to shout and scream.

Jonathan Pearce getting confused by goal-line technology at the World Cup was amazing.

A friend of mine about 20 or so years ago sent Motson a list of questions and he took time time to answer them. One question he asked Motson was what his favourite ground was. His answer was The Dell so he can't be that bad.

Many fans yes but Pierce gives it the big one and thinks he knows every stat going. He hardly ever talks about the current in interviews. It is always stats, history, little known facts etc. so he should be one (of the few) that actually says 'actually it was the 3-1 not the 6-3'

I think he probably does know it and forgot. I know it well and I've forgotten in the past, and I'm a Saints fan. Have a feeling that Pierce is a Pompey fan, by the way. He used to go to watch them with his Dad, I know that much.
