Blaklion wins the 3.35 at Chepstow. Son Du Berlais pulled up by AP. Elm Park won well in the Racing Post Trophy but can't see him winning next year's Derby, likely it will be trained by O'Brien.
What a complete farce on sky sports. Building up El Classico all week, then cant show the game until 5.15pm due to broadcasting restrictions (???) and show a summariser in the studio describing Barcelona taking the lead.
I've got a HD stream via wiziwig with Spanish commentary - can't understand a fecking word but it's a great picture and the commentators are off their heads I'd never pay for live sports coverage, it's all on t'internet
Cracking moment on radio five live this afternoon - Ian Robertson, who i think is great anyway, was commentating on the Bath v Toulose rugby match then broke off to say that he's one of the syndicate that has a share in Elm Park .
Imagine what is was like for Sir Peter commentating on the horses he owned, such as Attivo and Be Friendly, winning their big races. Before my time and I have never actually witnessed his delivery but by all accounts he was calm and professional and a lot less hysterical than Simon Holt insists in getting during every race he calls.
Blaklion for me too - thanks for pointing me at it Wardy - the only oasis in a dayful of desert wandering!
Fortunately Andrew Balding was in a bar in Melbourne, so he could not talk his horse into oblivion. I noted that before the race, Aidan O’Brien only told Emma Spencer to “listen” twice. He must be losing his touch, or maybe he fancied his chances of taking her behind the saddling boxes... I went down the boozer to watch it and was not impressed. There must surely be some law broken here – advertising the match with a 5pm kick off all week and then not showing the first quarter of an hour. I think they only had Chris Coleman as a pundit because he managed Real Sociedad between 2007 and 2008. Why they could not just drag in the bloke that runs the local Tapas bar or Manuel from Fawlty Towers, I do not know... As for the game itself, Real Madrid almost played like an away team in Serie A – sit back and defend and hit them on the break.
The perfect template and only way to play Barcelona or indeed anyside so drilled in possession play was perfectly exhibited tonight. In fact this has been RM's MO for sometime now under various coaching regimes. Something Ferguson never understood in his two complete humiliations against the Catalans in the CL final match. In fact the sourly Scot played 9 of the 11 who were crushed in the first encounter in the second.
Why do you need to listen to a pundit?...it's really quite a simple game. Must be a very quiet and strange hostelry where the views of some monosyllabic moron would be audible never mind sought!
I'd think so Oddy. Better than Casual Look and better than Phoenix Reach. His pedigree isn't good enough for him to be a classic winner most experts would say. I'd stick with my idea that he's not certain to get 12f.
Sky needed to have people to waffle because they could not show the first fifteen minutes. Those of us that showed up for the KO got stuck with it. On Sunday they always advertise the Soccer Sunday matches as 12:30 and 3:30 despite everyone knowing the KO is 1:30 and 4:00 so we can skip the adverts and the pundits and just show up for the match. I might be a moron, but I am not monosyllabic – well, not until I have had a couple of beers... Watching on Ch4, I think most of the concerns about Elm Park were about him handling the track at Epsom. He was ill at ease at Newmarket with the dip, so I think that a visit to Lingfield with him might be in order to see how he handles the descent round the corner there as it is as close as they can get to Epsom although without the camber.
