His seventh stint in rehab was in January this year when he checked into a £6,000-a-month treatment clinic in Southampton.The most recent binge comes just months after he was hospitalised for an alcoholic breakdown.In August he was found collapsed outside his home clutching a bottle of gin and was taken to Poole Hospital where he was treated for four days.Last month the star was pictured cradling a chicken whilst enjoying a pint and speaking to locals in a pub beer garden.But things for the troubled footballer appeared to be on the up after he was spotted with walking hand-in-hand with a woman who he is reportedly dating. Friends had said last week that they hoped Mandy Thomas, a public services worker, would save him from his battle against alcohol after she stayed by his side during his most recent relapse. Ms Thomas, who is separated from her husband and has two children, is said to be 'besotted' with the star with whom she has become 'inseparable'. A spokesman for his former club Spurs told the newspaper: 'We are aware of the situation with Paul and continue to offer our support.' Totally agree Angelic. Although the pictures of him at his worst are scary, the ones of him fishing or even having a tab are recognisable and not quite so bad. But its well documented that he is in a battle for his life. Lets hope the new lady in his world is strong and helps him to pull through. Wish him well. He must have some serious demons as it's like we hear about Gazzas drink problems once a month!
I prefer to think of Gazza as a England legend and not a person who has lost the plot but these demons are killing him and unfortunately I don't think he'll beat them.
Got a good mate this week admitted into rehab for drink, wish both of them the best. But as much this pains me to say it, I don't think this will be the end of Gazza's trips to rehab. I really hope he proves me wrong though.
I put up this thread just for general comment but I personally love the guy, he was great, I am old enough to have been there when George Best was playing, I worshipped the man, he was magic and it broke my heart when he died so young. I pray with every ounce of my soul this will not happen to Gazza...
Well said sir - George was my idol also, and Gazza my all time fav England player. Maybe its in their make-up to have that issue, but I always prefer to think of it as closer to genius the closer to madness. Certainly both players have/had the same weakness, and pretty much the same strengths too
