Still better than Gomes...Oh and does this make Kane the highest scoring goalkeeper in the history of the Europa League? Also interesting that he took the armband ahead of Vertonghen, Lennon etc.
I thought Kane was very able tonight. Although Spurcat will not be impressed with his goalkeeping abilities.
"Don't recall Mike England or Graham Roberts picking out deft crosses like that" Robbo preferred to leave a trail of bodies en route to goal.
We looked good in front of goal tonight, but we were verging on woeful at the back. Exposed again and again by simple balls from midfield. Lloris was bound to make a mistake eventually, so this is probably the least harmful way for him to do so. Won't have to travel to Greece. Kane continues to impress whenever he's given the opportunity and it's nice to see the crowd warming to him, especially as he's one of our own, as they pointed out. He's in far better form than either Adebayor or Soldado, though the Togolese striker did grow into the game tonight. Needs a goal.
They knocked the current 4th place Bundesliga side out in the qualifiers. Mainz are currently unbeaten in their domestic league and beat Dortmund 2-0 a few weeks ago, yet they lost to Asteras.
Great entertainment, at least. Lamela's will surely be the goal of the tournament, unbelievable goal, right up there with the best scored at the Lane. We didn't have a team set up particularly well though. with Dembele and Kane playing in the middle I thought we lacked aggression in winning the ball back, for me Kane's better cutting in off the left or playing as a striker because we don't win the ball high up the pitch when he's on. Dembele needs to start closing down players instead of standing off too. There are moments on the ball when Dembele looks utterly unplayable but he has to be braver without it, the lack of pressure on the ball made it easier for them to chip it over the top, which they're clearly very well drilled at doing. Capoue I thought did really well, Lamela still wasn't quite there with his passing but his work rate was faultless and his goals were top drawer. Lloris was a bit unlucky to be sent off but I'd think Vorm needs to be getting some more games anyway. Credit to Pochettino, I think he was right to field a stronger line up tonight, not the best balanced side but he kept some important players in the side and played some of the players that have impressed for us in the Europa League so far. I think we'll need to work on balls over the top before Sunday because you can bet Pardew will have Newcastle doing that too now.
Don't underestimate them either. They might not be a particularly good side but they're organised and well drilled in what they do which makes them dangerous enough to cause problems. 5-1 is an impressive result no matter who you face and I reckon they'd beat MK Dons playing like that.
Capoue my man of the match. Lamela and Kane will grab the headlines but Capoue showcased exactly why he is a key man under the new manager, he just did everything in that midfield area so well. Drove forward effectively with the ball, tackled, passed well too. Hopefully his pro City performance was just a blip in the league.
Football can tear your hair out sometimes. There I am wondering why Lamella kept passing to the other team then he scores a goal like! I used to pass a ball on occasions like that, but couldn't shoot for goal.If Lamella had scored that playing for United, they would have closed down the tv programmes and run it all night, but as he plays for Spurs,well...... How many times did our defence get caught out with a through ball?We weren't playing City. If Hugo ain't in the top 5 goalies in the World, somethings wrong.Gosh,he could punch his ticket with one of the giants. We are so lucky.
Exactly. You make my point very well. And you won't know what I mean when I say I'm glad to see Bristol City up top.
