The article is crap. It sources the mirror which in itself sources absolutely nobody. I'd like him. It could happen but this article is false.
If true I'd be keen as long as the price was reasonable. As others have pointed out he'd offer a fair bit despite his age. 1. He's very versatile and can be used as cover in a few position where we're still a bit thin. I'm guessing he'd be happy to play more of a bit part role to help where needed. 2. He's got tons of experience ranging from EPL to the World Cup which could be a massive help to youngsters. 3. With 'growing the saints brand' being a stated goal of the board bringing in a high profile name would certainly help. He may a bit past his prime but he's still a world recognized footballer and having him here (maybe retiring here) would be quite a statement about growth and ambition from the club. I'll just add that Ron and the scouting network havent failed us at all recently so i'll run with it.
Why would we sell a decent forward like Lambert and buy an even older player? Also certainly not for the wages he is apparently on at the moment. Nah can't see it myself........still football is a funny old game!.....
He would be an utility player for us probably, ready to play any position necessary on the pitch. I see no bad angle of signing Kuyt. He won't be here long-term, considering his age. He'll add an extra bit of squad depth an experience which can be important. He won't take anyone's place if he's not better, and if he is, than great.
He's played in better teams so it will be. I am not overly keen on Long but Kuyt I wasn't keen on when he was 'at his peak'. He's a typical Allardyce or Redknapp signing. Bought for the name rather than what he can actually do.
If Koeman thinks he can do a job, he can probably do a job. All those saying "no" were probably the same people saying "no" to Bertrand.
I didn't say no to Bertrand. Thought £10m was a bit much and to an extent still do but he is a good player with a better end product than he whom he replaced
I don't think £10 million is too much for Bertrand, A good English left back approaching the best years of his career? As for Kuyt I'd take him as a squad player, always been a fan. EDIT: and providing the wages were right for that role.
I think with Kuyt his whole career used to be around fitness and he used to run and run and run during games. I dont think his fitness would be an issue but it would be good cover for Mane when he is at the African Nation. Wouldnt like to see a long term contract, 1 year max.
Don't really see age as an issue. Kuyt is 34, both Lampard (36) and Drogba (36) are older yet I'd still have them. Kuyt is a technically gifted player with great athleticism and versatility for these reasons I'd take a punt on him with the usual proviso about realistic wages for a squad player.
If he had not said that I would say that anyone Koeman wants is someone that I want too. Look who he's wanted so far and look how they've done!
