We're talking serious name change here: Billy Fury = Ronald Wycherley; Alvin Stardust = Shane Fenton = Bernard William Jewry What's in a short name, eh?
de rigeur in days of yon. i recall an article perhaps 30 year back on the topic. it said that, clearly, if you'd been born declan mcmanus you'd have to change it to elvis costello, whereas if you were born elvis costello, the obvious thing would be to change it to declan mcmanus.
saw him in great yarmouth yonks ago.did a good show including an acoustic set. r.i.p. to a fellow rocker!!
Good man. No front Genuine fella. RIP.
Probably regarded as soppy mush this song but I actually like its easy going style and I believe I read somewhere that he actually did meet Buddy Holly. He never seemed to take himself seriously as Alvin often playing to the persona of leather and the gloves but he was a regular feature in the charts after the name change. RIP Mr Jewry - Fenton - Stardust, us oldies are certainly running out of pop stars of the era.
Agreed Ernie. Came across as a nice bloke grateful for the career he had. I had a bit of a thing for Liza Goddard growing up and was a bit jealous of him.
