Yep, that's his preferred position but is versatile to play in a number of positions. He's made a few strong runs from the middle which suggest B2B is his best position. Looks a little leggy over a short distance but he's pretty quick when he gets going.
Agger was aggressive, injuries apart we are missing him for that alone. That aggression comes from a desire to win which is what we saw in Suarez, since he left, nobody's picked up the baton so we don't have any players showing any aggression or desire to win.
yes agger always gave his all... when he could. the problem was when he was fit he was fine but half fit he couldn't get about any more... suarez is an extreme example of the type of player who sets the tone for the rest. to say balotelli is chalk to suarez's cheese is an understatement
Then why did we sign Balotelli? Rodgers and the committee f*cked up big time with regards to the attack this summer. I can't remember who said it but there was a genuine belief that Suarez would stay this summer. How naive is that?? Absolutely ridiculous to think he would stay and even more so that there was no contingency plan. Some will say that Sanchez was the replacement - problem is, he was only a target once we began negotiating with Barca over Suarez. Wenger had been chasing Sanchez for a few years. At least with Remy, we had a player with pace and could play centrally or out wide. Then we failed with him then targeted Bony, Balotelli. Two physical, target men. It makes no sense whatsoever.
I have absolutely no idea. I sighed with relief the day rodgers said we'd no plans to sign the guy. he's been everything everyone who was not trying to back him expected... ie. neutrals, wums and people like me. Gerrard said that he was crestfallen when he saw suarez bite at WC... in short I do think somewhere the club expected one more year. we seems to hawke round europes elite and not have a hot young property (not origi) in our sights. Falcao was a pipe dream... we hit up psg for 2 lads... no interest. we needed a yuong turk wanting to prove himself here not a failure looking for another chance or a senior guy looking for a pay day. remy... not pushed... bony.. ridiculous...
Doesn't matter if Balotelli is on the pitch or not. You can see the same thing happen whoever we play so it has to be our style of what we refer to as defending!
You don't need to 'get about' to show aggression and bring that to the team though do you? I accept Agger's shortcomings but felt he left too soon. Aggression and desire to win are valuable assets for a team to have and it doesn't matter whether the player can't get about like he used to or isn't one of your best players - for me, the intangibles like vocality, physicality, aggression, organisation ability etc. are all needed in a team and let's face it, we're carrying passengers anyway [if that's how you see it] who are fully fit and should be giving a lot more so even a below par Agger actually adds a lot more to the overall performance.
Not sure I entirely agree. Johnson and Lucas hardly played > team's still rubbish. Other than Gerrard, which other seniors are there who aren't pulling their weight?
well this is true johnson only played last two and lucas not at all. skertl is not playing well....gerrard is certinaly an issue but we've a lot coming back from injury too.
i agree with this but equally snapping about heels and taking lads down to prevent fast breaks are also what i'm talking baout. we got no yellow cards which suggests we barely kicked one of them. there were 4/5 fast breaks someone needed to block off a run to prevent. if you lose 3-0 v a superior side you'd expect your midifled and cbs to have 2/3 cards in there.
Taking lads down comes under the physicality I mentioned surely/ You don't have to be the best player or fully fit etc. to be putting in tackles, heck a few lazy tackles in the right place would do but as you say none at all is unacceptable, if the players can't be bothered or lack the skill or are afraid then they shouldn't be pulling on the red shirt. 100% effort or off you come, which annoyed me when he took Coutinho off because he was one of the better players and should have seen the game out.
You can't underestimate the psychological aspect either - thinking they're not as good without Suarez and then proving it. The sooner Sturridge comes back the better
Johnson, Skrtel, Lovren (he may still be young, but he's brought in as a senior, leader figure), Gerrard, Lucas, Enrique. I know not all have played much, but they've looked dross when they have played. These are the players that the youngsters will look up to. It's hardly inspiring.
there is that and the tone badontelly sets as well... if guys see a guy not really putting hit about getting picked they do likewise
