Yeah probably, even that ****ed up some phones tho. Had 3 returned today as the phones just had a black screen. Another one didn't even turn on.
did this sort of thing happen before jobs ascended? In the 3GS days they seemed bulletproof, but then you had to jailbreak them to do anything interesting. Now apple are copying features left right and centre from competitors.
I was going to say the same thing. Since Jobs has died Apple haven't a clue what to do product and OS wise. Their products all seem the same now with as you say stuff copied from others. Like the finger print crap that doesn't actually work properly most times.
I was going to ask where you'd be if you suddenly lost all your kewl data you'd accumulated, because an update came along at the wrong time..? I guess you might have a decent proper watch in your pocket though. I know, something like an Eterna.
Thank you for remembering me, FLT. I told you so. Good that you got it all sorted though. Hope that was a free unnecessary call to Apple support..?
You would still have the Apple logo tho, which is the thing most people that buy Apple products care about.
Buy a Samsung They warned me I could lose everything, then I pressed the power button and the home button at the same time, but as soon as the screen went black, I had to immediately let go of the buttons. It then went black screen and when I repowered, it came back telling me that the next part of the upgrade was taking place and they basically talked me though a couple of simple 'follow instruction' screens, with me re-entering passwords and I was back on and updated. All contacts and apps still there.... happy/lucky bunny here
On the website, they offer a callback, but that didn't work for me, so I found a 'book a call' page where you call them. They offered an 0844 number with a free phone number next to it... I chose the free phone number and was through. Very good Customer service from the bloke to be fair. Irish and he didn't even take the piss when it was apparent I am an IT numpty.
Lucky then, Apple need to sort out their updates. I don't know of one update that hasn't been a mess.
That's very true, Beefy. Years ago, Apple were making some very bold statements about their computer products, such as the impenetrability of their OS to hackers. Of course, it should be. It is based on the Unix OS, after all. Less than 24 hours later it had been hacked big time. Why didn't it cause a major news headline..? Because Apple had 6% of the desktop/office computer market. Hackers don't really bother to hack the Apple OS because it's a waste of time. You're not going to overturn the world by doing it. Anyway, shortly after that, this came out: please log in to view this image And although it has long since been superseded, this amusing video became very popular for a while, amongst the told-you-so brigade because the guy got the accurate feel of what it was like to use an Apple product after you were used to a PC. And to this day, Apple products still have that superficial douchebag flavour about them when you are used to something that operates more logically: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UUjrTotRa6I OK, off the soapbox.
Tesco are ****ed, 47% cut in profits, chairman is standing down. A few new stores mothballed as well. Not looking good for them at all.
Good to read you got decent service. It appears that the mobile phone and service companies realise that people need decent service. Years ago you were left to flounder, by many companies, but these days few are actually poor. I've never yet had to test the Samsung support line for the phone itself, but I have had a couple of chats with my Three network support, and I have to say that they were superb.
The head honcho at Waitrose said that shopping patterns have changed...people buy almost on a day by day basis rather than the big weekly shop, so shops have to adapt as this means people will no longer go out of town to a large supermarket. Also the advent of discount stores means that supermarkets need to stop all complicated offers and just reduce prices. This means the suppliers have opened a can of worms...they supplied discount stores, now supermarkets will want them to cut their margins even more. Apparently supermarkets in Germany and France have hit back and reversed the trend a bit. I know we have far too many supermarkets on the Island... Newport has a Morrisons, Co-op, Lidl, Poundland, Iceland, 99p store, Aldi, and Sainsburys with an Asda planned for next year. Can't go on...it's only a small market town for heaven's sake.
Frankly, good..! The Tesco shopping experience is appalling. I try to keep well away from them, but inevitably circumstances get out of my control [necessity or if I'm with someone else] and I end up in one. And it's horrible. It's a cacophony of staff/customer announcements, adverts from plasma screens [where did get the throwaway money to put those up Tesco..?], and general hub-bub that I find so annoying. Plus, the price/quality is often found wanting. In truth I manage to keep out of Tesco for most of the year, so shopping tends to be an OK experience for me.
Don't like Tescos either....too big and noisy. Mainly shop at Sainsburys as one is only 5 mins walk from me...good service and I like to have a cup of tea and read all the papers for free. However, don't ever buy household goods anywhere else other than Poundland or 99p store.
Not having a go at you Fran, but can we stop calling the likes of Lidl and Aldi discount supermarkets..? They are not discounting. Their prices are much lower all the time. And frankly, their quality is, more often than not, higher than the likes of Tesco produce. This is the real reason why Tesco profits are down. Word has finally got around and the prejudices that people used to have against going into Aldi and Lidl are dying out. These European stores work to a much lower profit setting and they pay their employees better. The British supermarket chains are going to come crashing down if they don't learn quickly.
