No yellow cards from LFc last night. Several breakways that could elad to goals were not even challenged by first lfc player. Our mindset for me is not "professional" enough nor aggressive enough. We all laugh at rooney for kicking a player needlessly cos the game was too hard for him but where was LFC passion and toughness last night... henderson gave Ronaldo a kick in the first min and got away with it. that should've been carte blanche to kick lumps out of them and get really tight.... the fact NOBODY got a single card says to me we stood in front of lads and danced about while the passed through us. not once did our lads arrive a little late and give a few digs to keep madrid honest... not after henderson in minute 1. Nobody thought to stop a fast break like madrid stopped sterling.... kroos was laughing cos he'd done the right thing. sure if someone headbutts someone or does a two footed lnge find its nuts but to mot pick up a yeelow for making it a competitive game? thats just pussy IMO.
The lads sh*t it - they were intimidated of being on the same pitch as the might Real Madrid. Allen and Henderson were star struck, and Gerrard couldn't catch a cold let alone keep up with the likes of Isco and co. I think Can has a nasty/cynical streak in him. Allen certainly does but he was over-awed last night.
I think once henderson said hello to Ronald mc donald and got away with it... most sides... especially cheslea would have kicked them round the park... that ref was not going to throw cards around too early.
I think a lot of us mentioned it before that we need more nastier players in the team. Suarez was a nasty c*nt.
**** it? Intimidated? star struck? Do you even have eyes...? If the players were any of those things, surely we'd have started **** and perhaps got better as the game went on? We wouldn't have come out the blocks fighting for half an hour to then suddenly standing off in awe of who we were up against!
We didn't fight for half an hour - we backed off around 15-20 mins, and couldn't get close to their players let alone the ball. But if you think that was a courageous performance, then I don't share your opinion.
We backed off after conceding the second goal, not the first. Courageous? When did a say that? I said we put up a fight (it was a physical game, means we were at least matching them in terms of play) and were in the game. You really need to get some perspective on what we were up against Jimmy!
we stopped really pressing after 20mins. we were giving more sapce and first goal loked like it was coming.... some players gave up after goal 1. others goal 2.
I don't agree. The heads dropped after the second goal (Johnson after the first). They knew the first was a moment of brilliance from Real and that it was against the run of play. The also knew the second goal killed the game.
Not really - we lost that intensity after 15-20 mins and allowed Real to have the ball. They kept possession and were pinning us back which led to the first goal. We failed to regain any form of control for the rest of the half. Don't get me wrong - we were up against real world class players. But we simply couldn't match them or at least get physical with them. And I think it stems from a combination of senior players being too sh*t and some players who are still coming to grips with BIG matches like this.
Was listneing to souncess prematch. he said the 1981 final was niggly as MADRID were the ones who couldn't play us so they were fouling.... yesterday the world knew LFc were the lesser side but we couldn't or had no physicality to bully them. one must say that back 5/6 years ago the engish teams ALL had more power and physicality and were able to boss the likes of barca and defend against them... now the germans and real have the physicality and england as a whole are weak. arsenal have zero physicality round the park... long time since they did.. city have some but don' seem to apply it and its only chelsea with cahill, terry, matic and the like who are strong enough to compete. LFC don't look as fit as european teams, don't look to have stamina and have no aggression either. I feel england as a whole and certinaly rodgers is too in love now with little foreign players who are "technicians" and ignore the actual type of player england can make... powerful athletes. FFS we've manquillo in on loan running up and down when wisdom is just as f'n good if not better. (nothing against manquillo mind) Henderson is our only player capable of fronting up in a game and i'd certainly not call him hard.
I totally agree. Our midfield just can't tackle and hasn't been able to do so for many years. Sure we can (occasionally) nick a ball in midfield but we certainly can't win one - and every opposing side knows it. I'm not advocating that we go back to Norman Hunter style midfielders but football still remains a physical game. You have to win the battle to be allowed to play. Madrid showed that. They were not slow to use a little 'strength' in midfield or defence. Somebody said in another thread ( I think) that Suarez was a nasty bugger and we don't have that in our side. Henderson is not that type of player - even though he appears to have the physical attributed for it so perhaps we should let Flanno have a run in the midfield. At lest he's prepared to make a tackle. I also agree with the your comment regarding the level of fitness. Perhaps its time to bring back Shank's box!
Glad you picked up on Henderson - over the past few games, he's been easily beaten by players. He's quick to close down and press and knick the ball, as is Allen but there isn't a real big challenge in him. I'm hoping Can can provide this.
Can has to be given his chance. He still doesn't look fit to me but he's a box to box type player who can add some urgency to us. However, we still need a tackling DM. Whilst I'm at it, can anybody tell me why we always allow sides to have a spare man 10 yards inside our half with no Liverpool player within 10 yards of him?
shankly's box is legendary. revolutionary in those days in fact. I am not sure on can. i think he's not fit after two injuries and missing preseason and will also take time to adapt to speed of english game. I have to wait and see with him. i don't know he's the aggressive sort or not.
I think its due to 3 lads (not just balotelli) playing thier own game up top haf the time and then there being a deep back 4 line meaning the midfield 3 simply can't fill all the gaps. I would wonder if can is a sahin type or what.. not all german players are cloggers......... theres nothign to suggest he is a DM yet. box to box maybe.
I couldn't agree more. Maybe it's playing in the sunshine that gives them something extra, I don't know ... but the contrast in fitness, stamina, speed .... was strikingly obvious. I do honestly wonder if the climate you play/live in has something to do with it, England always look like little weaklings when playing Spain, Brazil, Argentina ... Also no coincidence our best players of late are from these type of countries. A course of vitamin D for all our players before the Bernabeu Just to add Skrtel to the list of one as a player capable of fronting up, he did some superb tackles last night.
