According to this report Ronald Koeman wants to sign former Liverpool striker Dirk Kuyt in the January window. Kuyt plays for Fenerbahce at the moment, and played as a utility defender in the World Cup for the Netherlands. I'm not sure how he would fit into our plan though. Any thoughts? http://www.sportsmole.co.uk/footbal...ews/southampton-to-sign-dirk-kuyt_184100.html
But he is Dutch. Koeman is Dutch. Everyone knows that everyone I'm Dutchland knows each other. It must, therefore, be true.
Kuyt played as a wing back in the WC did he not? Are we going to be playing 3 at the back at some point, I wonder?
If we did, we wouldn't need Kuyt to do it. Both our full backs are effectively wing backs anyway, great at defending and attacking.
Could be good backup - I assume for one of the wide players in the forward three. Keeps up his fitness so his age is probably less of an issue The main thing is in Turkey he is on 45-50k a week. I would only take him for half that as he will just be a reserve Nice to see an inbound rumour for a change though!
True. We're still a bit short on cover though. Whereas we seem to have plenty of CBs, so the 3 at the back thing could still have legs. I don't think Rpon would employ any set up the players weren't happy with, because he is a pragmatist - unlike Pochettino who is a bit of an idealist. but if we had the personnel it would be interesting to see us set up with proper wingers. After all, Ron does seem to be encouraging crosses into the big man. Just speculation really, I've no idea what's in the manager's head.
He's moved from striker to winger to wing back in his career though I believe? 10 goals for Fenebahce last season though.
For the right price he could be a good buy. I always thought him underrated at LFC. Probably cos they were crap when he was there.
Only due to his versatility, willingness to play wherever he's wanted, and the needs of his club at any given time. Up front is where we are most lacking in depth.
I thought the opposite. Never understand why people thought he was good. He was a nuisance around the box and not a brilliant winger but put 110% effort in and ran all over the place. Like Makail Smith without the goals. He would only be cover for Shane Long
Hey..! That's my word..! But you're right, it is. I read an article about Kuyt/Koeman earlier and didn't think it held and credibility then. At least I hope it doesn't. Kuyt is 34 and there's only one way his career is going. Besides, I also read he may have one last hurrah with Feyernoord.
There's that young chap called Jay Rodriguez I'm hearing good things about, so that should add to our front line strength.
