Commission refers the rape conviction of Ched Evans to the Court of Appeal... Following an in depth, ten-month long investigation, the Commission has decided to refer the case to the Court of Appeal. The referral is made on the basis of new information which was not raised at trial, and which in the view of the Commission, could have added support to Mr Evans’s defence at trial and therefore raises a real possibility (see note one) that the Court of Appeal may now quash the conviction. It will now be for the Court to hear a fresh appeal to decide the case. http://www.ccrc.gov.uk/commission-refers-the-rape-conviction-of-ched-evans-to-the-court-of-appeal/
Even if the verdict's overturned and he's proven innocent, he'll still be the guy that licked out a girl after his pal creampied her.
Good news and about time. Evans has been sold down the river big time imo. That pizza box for me has been a big piece of the evidence that has so far been under stressed. Her story has more holes than a tramps vest.
Never mind Evans, this is a guy who tried to get away without paying for his plastic carrier. Serious crime... please log in to view this image
Could that be the current Newcastle United manager holding Hat Boy in a headlock? Gotta be a better job than managing The Mags to be fair. With a couple of funerals coming up I ventured into Marks and Sparks this afternoon to purchase a suit. Mrs Shackleton accompanied me and applying her feminine logic, which I fail to understand, I ended up buying two and not getting much change out of a monkey. 'Like a carrier bag?' enquired the surly madam currently undertaking the cashier number seven gig. Please, I replied. 5 pence she retorted angrily. Adding it's the law not company policy, as obviously instructed. That's OK, I replied, I don't actually give a flying ****, but perhaps the High Street megalith that is M&S could actually absorb that cost on purchases that make your eyes water? Just a thought, I postulated. One for head office to consider. If you like I could write my customer feedback down, roll it up and stick it up someone's ar....... Ernie was escorted off the premises of a popular and successful retailer. And not for the first time.
She was not a happy camper, Stan. But then that's often the case. The security guard looked like he was part of a job creation scheme run by Help The Aged. I decided that it would be in everybody's best interests if I went quietly.
Don't worry, just wear it (or both of them) give'em a quick iron and take them back for a refund. My sis did it all the time...
I've just learnt that there are exceptions. If, every time you go shopping, you buy a serrated knife and/or a goldfish then they can't charge you for the bag. Sorted.
Absorb what cost? They'd already included in the cost of your shopping a portion to cover the cost of you having a bag to carry it home in. All that happens now is that instead of charging £30 for some shopping in bags, the shops are now charging £30 for some shopping and then adding on another 20p for the bags to put it in. That 20p isn't a tax, it's straight to the shops to do with what they want. The biggies will be giving it to charities, but personally I'd prefer they reduced the cost of the shopping to reflect that they now charge separately for bags. If it were something bigger, like a phone and charger costing £200, then a £20 charger fee being introduced, you'd not be impressed at O2 going "it'll be £220 now, but we'll give the £20 to charity, or you can have the phone with no charger for £200" (bearing in mind if you're not with Apple you can usually use your old phone's charger with your new phone). You'd want them to be reducing the price of the phone without a charger, even if it were only by £10.
i was wondering what the cost to tesco/asda/etc of a biodegradable carrier bag was and what the production costs were.
He's in the Appeal Court next Tuesday, where he hopes to have his conviction quashed. £500k in compo if he does... http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/footballer-ched-evans-could-500000-7504507
Seems a very small amount for 2 and half years of his life wasted in prison, his career destroyed and his name dragged through the mud. That would barely even cover a year of lost earnings for him. I imagine he'd be more relieved to clear his name but that amount of money is insulting.
