Just been thinking about looking ahead to the Arsenal game, and I'm worried there might be a strange, nervous atmosphere in and around the ground, which is understandable given the result at the weekend. However, we need to really get behind these lads and try to restore some pride to the club, which unfortunately has been a bit of a laughing stock for the last few days. I don't even actually care that much if we lose the game, just as long as the players show some pride for the shirt, and show that they care about paying something back to the most loyal fans in the world (and I'm not on about travel expenses.) There's always a class atmosphere in the South Stand these days but we really need to get the whole stadium rocking and make it a hostile environment for the Arsenal players. If everyone in the ground was singing (like in the final few minutes against WBA last season) I reckon our home record would be a lot more formidable than it is. I'm going to the match with a few of my mates from Manchester and Glasgow and I've been bigging up the atmosphere at the SOL to them all week, hopefully they won't be disappointed! Ha'way the lads.
It surely can't get that much flatter than it is anyway, but I can see the crowd turning on the players if things don't go well early doors..
If we concede early then I fear for the game and, potentially, the season. If the crowd get on the players' backs early doors then I can honestly see a rout. Players don't need their own fans on their back as it is very rarely good for a team (which is why I never boo or get on a players back before the full time whistle) but there are a lot of people who do... Kevin Friend is the ref!
I don't know about anyone else but I'll be shouting and singing till me voice goes like I do every home game. Can't wait.
Iremember after the 5-1 the atmosphere was utterly bizarre, it was cagey and it was awkward but you could feel that the ground was with the team. I reckon it will be similar.
I can see some very loud singing to get the team feeling comfortable again Think everyone knows we shouldn't really be getting anything from Arsenal...a draw would be a good result
I'm quite glad that it's a decent team, cos if we had a lesser side we are on a hiding to nothing. Beat say a Burnley 1-0 and it would only be a small lift. Perform, get a result against Arsenal, even a draw or a loss with fight and we'd feel it a bit. Plenty of supposedly lesser clubs have tanked bigger boys, 4-0 the lads and I will write of Southampton as an experience, haha
I'm sure the players know that they owe the supporters a performance after last week, but groans and criticisms from the first mistake will not help anybody.
Is that the team that were lucky to draw at home to Hull last week? In fact they've drawn 2 at home and lost 1 away. We won our last home game and haven't been beaten this season at the SOL. I think the crowd will be fine as they always are in adversity.
I hope Vergini gets a big cheer if he plays, the lad needs a confidence boost, he was looking a very comfortable PL defender up until that moment of madness.
Funny that, all day at work I was thinking 4-0 meself! Glad they they had a late result in CL against Anderlecht. Come to the SOL with heads held high & hopefully leave tails wagging between their legs
We're only 3 points ahead of Sunderland, and 11 behind Chelsea. Our performances so far this season have been pathetic
You're a few players from a title challenging squad though, head and shoulders above ours. It's your defence though that could give us a chance of getting something out of the game, though I doubt we will. I don't demand a win or even a draw, just a respectable performance giving 100%.
