Does anybody know anyone like this. My uncle was a Sunderland season ticket holder for 20 years and went to every home and away game then he said one day he tried golf instead and realised that football was way overated. Now he's completely quit football and doesnt even check the results or talk about it anymore and has totally fallen in love with golf. I'm the same with cycling i used to love football but when i tried cycling i realised how rubbish football was compared to it.

I love football.....I f**ing hate football as well!!!! If I didn't love football so much in my youth then I think the way it has become I would have packed in caring about 10 years ago! Unfortunately its like a drug. Despite all of its recent downfalls, I cant help caring even when I try an convince myself that I don't! f**ing Sunderland!!!!!

I don't feel the same passion as I always used too. A win or defeat doesn't change my mood for the rest of the day. Once the next day comes I almost forget we even played. This is coming from somebody who has been involved in football for 25 years following Sunderland up and down the country and playing for my school, county, Saturday and Sunday teams. A completely obsessive football nut.

Don't know why it's happened, but being honest, it has. I used to get butterflies before a game and we had to win! Now I would just like to see us win, if not then it's no biggy.

Love football less these days , think as you get older start having kids have to pay the bills etc, realize there is more important things in life then football. As a kid fans were a important part of a club, now its more about sponserships etc and now feel they rip off fans with changing shirts every season and all the crap about 3rd kits.
And as good as it is to see some of the best players from over the world, there's many who turn up just for the money and dont give a **** really about the club ,and will quickly move on to another club for a another big pay day , gone are the days when team players where mostly local lads growing up dreaming of playing for their local club.

Oh aye the passion has reduced quite a bit, but its still there! A defeat used to ruin my week! Now it just ruins my evening and maybe when I first wake up the next day!

I know, but why do I/we still care so much! We shouldn't really! If football was politics the fans would have had a revolution by now and cut off Sepp Blatters head!

Surely there is some cyclists forum you can go and join instead of posting your usual drivel on a football forum ?

Me, the England players are overpaid & over rated & have put me off football all together!, FIFA has shown that corruption in football is rife, over priced admission charges to see games.

I think its a rather pertinent point that the OP is making and one that should be discussed on a football forum, as can be seen by some of the comments. Personally fell out of love with the professional game many years ago. I watched a Sunday morning pub game yesterday and it was excellent - well the standard of football was ****e but seeing 2 sides fight for their mates was great. It took me back to my playing days (I'm 47 now) when we played with passion and for one another - i dont see that much in the pro game now.

I turn my hand to golfing (13 handicap), which is my passion and I'm a newby to road cycling which I am slowly but surely getting into.

    Good post.

What is it though? Where has the passion gone?

I don't know if things become less meaningless as we get older, maybe family has come along and football has been put to one side without even realising it, does our jobs take our attention away, have I subconsciously realised that all Sunderland are is a top half championship/bottom half premier league and that's all we will ever be, and I know it?

I wish I had the answers because although I've lost the passion, I've no idea why!

Like I said to Vic9 the other day I am disappointed for about 10 min and then carry on with my life as though nothing has happened and if all my mates take the piss out of me I just agree with them and they get bored and belt up.

    Hi rooch,
sorry if i was a bit off hand on Saturday night, but i was hurting real bad(i still am) i hate falling out with fellow SAFC fans.I'am getting an old git now and can take defeats and relegations on the chin and carry on.But the one thing that boils my piss is someone attempting to take the piss out of my club, and i knew it was coming from all angles and especially the Skunks,so the last thing i wanted was a SAFC fan starting a piss taking thread,so in hindsight ****ing Shameless should have been the one to abuse..:emoticon-0150-hands
