Gustavo….you are SO right, Conner is extremely poor left, middle or right. Even Southgate thinks he is pants. ( And he is eligible but not picked ) Question….. Who would give him £40k to stay ? Well ……………………….?
he kept us up last season... I never called him son of pele but he also got zero opportunities before the end of last season and has had very little this. Was excellent against Stoke, Spurs and Man Utd but is not and never will be a winger. IMO You have based your opinion on the few games he got before Poyet put him in at the end of last season. He was excellent in those last ten or so games. But I have always championed him and couldn't understand why he never got a chance.
So he wants more dosh than Southamptons centre forward who ripped us a new one ? Am I missing something ? He is very average, and a pussy, 40k for 4 year………!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Who would buy him if not desperate? We need better than all of the strikers we have, Fletcher should be 2nd to a 20 goal a year man. Wickham…………simply not good enough.
Offer him a contract on the same terms or improved a miniscule amount, whatever ensures that we get compo from him leaving then hope he leaves... Don't rate him in the slightest. A flukeish run of good form at the back end of the season has done nothing to change my mind.
Oh when the Saints go marching in , Oh when the Saints go marching in , Oh how I love 8 to be that number , when the Saints go marching in.
Just had another look at the second half and did some stop/start for each goal and it was might bloody obvious that our midfield cover was non-existent and there was no track back to pick up extra attackers. Don't like criticising individual players but the lack of leadership and organisation was the biggest issue. For their last goal three defenders went to the player with the ball who turned it back onto the penalty box where the scorer had acres of space. We defended neither space nor marked our men. I also reckon that the player who gave up soonest was Wickham as there was twice when he was strolling back when our moves broke down. I just fear that this result has shattered team spirit and we go back to our slow build up game rather than the type of football we played in the first fifteen minutes.
The Sunderland supporters showed how to go down with class .......... the Hull people on here show how to behave without any class. They're well know for it though aren't they? BTW, have you noticed that there's a pattern on match threads? You often get intelligent posters from other boards, on here, before the match & the thick ones afterwards
For the record, I'll repeat what I said, 'Southampton won't finish anywhere near where they currently are'. Swansea had a great start, won Manager of the Month, sat in the top four etc. Many people, including the likes of you, believed that would continue. They haven't won since August and Monk, as I predicted, is whinging his way through every post-match interview blaming anyone but himself. Southampton aren't a top 4 side ........ oh and, by the way, sort out your signature, it's pathetic
Tbh I think Poyet needed to put his hand up for this one, take some responsibility instead of just blaming his players. The subs he made were ridonkulous. I dont think Southhampton will finish 4th either, but they're finish 5-8th. Liverpool and Spurs look pretty darn poor this season. Everton will pick it up as always. Chelsea, City, Arsenal, ManU in that order for top 4.
Interesting ....... advice on a manager from a Newcastle supporter Of course Poyet will take responsibility, just as he takes responsibility for criticising the players which he's more than entitled to do.
Southampton have started brilliantly, but the test is going to be if their new players turn out to be fair weather recruitments. It happens every year and it's a cliche, but come the winter you find out what players are made of. I'm not talking about "The Thursday night trip to Deepdale", I'm talking about fixture congestion, the fact that Europe is having their winter break, getting up to go play football on Boxing Day, New Years Day etc. As for Wickham, he's nowhere near what's required for you over the course of a season. I said in the summer he'll be sussed out easily, (Which Stu cried about) and that's what's happened. He's not unplayable, Bruce desperately signed him hoping he'd be a bully like Andy Carroll but he's just not. I'd be very surprised if a ball-to-feet type manager such as Poyet sees him or a player of his mould in his long term plans.
Having “learned a lot” from their 8-0 defeat at Southampton, Gustavo Poyet will be putting his Sunderland under the microscope again this morning. The Uruguayan claimed watching his players’ response as the humiliating defeat unfolded was educational, and will continue to monitor them in training this week as he decides on his next team. The Black Cats entertain Arsenal on Saturday, and some of those responsible for the horror show on the south coast will need to make a strong case at the Academy of Light this week to be involved. “When you lose like that you see real characters on the pitch,” said Poyet. “The second half showed me a lot about individuals. More than you think. A lot more.” Having “learned a lot” from their 8-0 defeat at Southampton, Gustavo Poyet will be putting his Sunderland under the microscope again this morning. A lot more.” Asked if the same would be true of this week’s training, he replied: “Yes of course. Every day is something to learn but when everything is good it’s very easy. You need to be there when things are going against you.” Poyet, asked if he planned widescale changes, replied: “We’ll see the players this week. Who will be fit, I don’t know. It’s going to be an interesting week, I can tell you that.” Despite his undisguised anger at equalling the biggest defeat in the club’s history, Poyet resisted the urge to drag players in for extra training. “I needed Sunday off,” he said. “I wasn’t going to be any harsher. I didn’t need to see them on Sunday. Saturday was enough. It hurts – I hate losing 1-0. Imagine eight.” Adding to Poyet’s frustration was the fact a team featuring only one (enforced) change from the side which enjoyed a morale-boosting victory over Stoke City began the game at St Mary’s quite positively. “We started very well and I thought we surprised Southampton a little bit,” he said. “Then the first goal was from another planet. The second was a little unlucky. Then the penalty (appeal) – oh my God! When that happened I thought it was not going to be our day but not as bad as that.”
