Feel-good story alert: Saints fan travels from Australia to first ever home game, sees Saints win 8-0 and Ryan Bertrand gives him his match-worn shirt, signed, and hands it over to the fan personally in the St. Mary's car park after the game. Well played, Ryan.
I suppose there were one or two people who hit the jackpot with their first ever Saints game yesterday.
So 8-0 and we get, cough, 1 (one) player in Crooks team of the week. Well he's definately got over predicting we would struggle to stay up this year.
Todays Telegraph Headlines you won't read today! SAINTS PLAN £80M RAID TO BUY BACK ALL THE PLAYERS THEY DO NOT NEED and number of the week 16BN THE FINAL SCORE IN SAINTS V SUNDERLAND IF IT HAD BEEN PLAYED OVER TWO LEGS HAPPY DAYS!!!!!
Shearer on MotD2 reverted back to the Sunderland were dreadful and Saints weren't actually that good...anyone could have knocked in 8 against that shower Typical pundatory
He's kind of got a point though. Sunderland were atrocious. There was a moment in the 2nd half where there were 7 or 8 Sunderland players all on one side of the pitch and there were 3 Saints players on the other side given the freedom of Southampton. You wouldn't see that in Sunday League football.
Shearer agreed we were good, but we were allowed to be. Like everyone I would prefer him gushing, but Sunderland should never have let us score 8...they gave up even trying to be in the right part of the pitch. We had to be good for that to happen, but they certainly contributed to their own downfall. Shearer, when challenged about not praising Saints, said he did it on MOTD...to which the presenter said, 'Not our fault you are on every programme.'
Complete joke. Even if he's not putting anyone else in, I simply cannot believe that there were two better fullback performances than we saw on Saturday. Also, what about Fonte? We have the best defensive record in the league and he is at the heart of it. Has he ever been in Crook's 'team'.
I feel a bit sorry for Ipswich...they probably thought they had lived down their 9-0 loss to United in 1995. Now it's in all the papers...just like our 4-3 loss in the FA Cup after being 3-0 up whenever there is a big cup reversal.
Horrible for a keeper, having to pick the ball out of your own net 8 times. Very much doubt the supporters want a refund though, it's a pointless gesture. What they'll be wanting is 90 minutes hard work from the players next weekend.
Perhaps a cheap or free trip to their next game....though that may be like getting a restaurant gift voucher as recompense for a bad dose of food poisoning
Well, Aguero was in ahead of Pelle which was fair enough, can't argue with that. And to be honest, you couldn't put the CB's or keeper in this week as they had very little to do. Would have put Clyne or Bertrand in though, and definitely Davis.
