So, having lost our best player in a generation, our useless, totally exposed defence looks a lot more useless and even more exposed.

Last year, we all laughed about it. This year, scoring is tough but conceding is still very easy.

What do we do? Rodgers needs to sort this out really quickly because we will get slaughtered against the likes of Madrid!!

Until we have the ability to score at will again (it might be a while!!), we need to get back to the basics of football. Starting in keeping clean sheets!!. Time for a coaching shuffle and perhaps a new defensive coach coming in? I'd settle for a slightly less expansive game but be much less vulnerable. I know some wouldn't like that but if not, what's the answer?

We need a new defence coach. It's toxic at the moment. Lovren isn't THAT bad a cb, but has now become dire. Just like the rest of our CBs on the scrap heap

Ive been saying it for a few years now. We need a specialised defensive coach and if we have one (I doubt it) we need a new one. Someone who can drill the defence in basic defending. If in doubt put it out is as old as time but our players seem to want to head it "clear" to an opposition attacker on the edge of our box <grr>.

In hindsight I guess putting it out isnt much of an option as we cant defend set pieces.

Sack the board , the transfer committee and 90% of our squad and staff. Lets tear this **** down and start again.

It only took what 50 mins for lovern to figure out how to play Zamora. The rest of the team abdicated all responsibility to get to breaking ball first

Not one single time did lfc get to that second ball

Enrique should be dropped for the 3 errors leading to goal

  5. I like Lovren. I think Skrtel's not done much wrong either and I've just defended the keeper on the other thread. They just don't seem to work as one unto
Unit. I'm still convinced it's a lack of protection from midfield. I was hoping the change in shape with Hendo & Can sitting a bit deeper would solve it but they were more like B2B players

I liked Gerrard being pushed further up as im not a fan of him in DM but it didn't work as we went 433 with Hendo and Can sitting with Gerrard ahead, rather than a typical diamond with Can sitting and Hendo Gerrard and Lallana ahead.

Meant Hendo was wasted in 1 of the 2 more defensive midfield roles.

  7. Yep, we lacked Hendo's energy. Of course, what's the answer? Only thing I can think of is the diamond system. Gerrard in the hole with Hendo and Allen/Lallana/Ford either side, Can/Lucas at DM. Means Sterling would have to play upfront.

    Lucas
    Hendo Allen
    Lallana/Coutinho
    Sterling Balotelli

For the time being something like that. Lucas is ok back there without Gerrard. Hendo Allen Lalana offer good energy and ball control and I've said a 1000 times, with Sturridge out, Sterling should be playing up top and told to make runs behind the defence (see our 3rd goal today). might moan about Balotelli but ignore him at the moment.

That offers defence defensive cover as well as plenty of energy and attacking intent.

Of course, means dropping the undroppable though...

  9. That was kind of my point. I don't want us to stop Gerrard because he's not good enough or because his legs have gone like others have claimed. I prefer to look at what is best for the team. Same reason Mario shouldn't have been signed, never mind actually playing each game.

  10. **** Mario off and put Gerrard upfront alongside Sterling? <laugh>

I think Gerrard would offer less movement that Balotelli <yikes>

We haven't been solid in defence since Clarke left. West Brom have ruined any chance of him coming back as a coach by giving him the management idea

I read a piece when he became our manager about his def stats and I voiced my concerns

It needs sorting ffs, cant belive how bad we are in def and its been this way for ages. Surely BR has had enough time time to get it sorted, its a joke

It is actually a joke, I do think BR is taking note and trying to solve this e.g. Moving Gerrard up but didn't work today, just scary how much space we allow the opposition

Gerrard will never be dropped, whether that be for tactical reasons, fitness reasons or simply if he's just playing poorly. If he's in the DM role, we need Can/Allen and Henderson infront meaning either Lallana or Coutinho will be dropped (Lallana has played well and Coutinho is starting to build up some form again). If he's pushed upwards in a diamond, we need to play Lucas at DM meaning only one from Lallana, Can, Allen and Coutinho can play which would severely inhibit our creativity.

There is, of course, an easy solution to anyone who isn't the LFC manager...

Agreed on that. Clear that Zamora had the beating of Lovren in the air all game and was winning knock downs, but the amount of space the QPR players had to pick up those knock downs in and around the box was suicidal. Once we saw what QPR were doing in regards to Zamora we should have deployed one of the Midfield players to be 5-10 yards away to win those knocked down balls.

That's what happened 2nd half where Gerrard was told to sit deeper and play more infront of his back 4, picking up those knock downs and not giving Zamora the space to bring the ball down.

Give Rodgers credit, he saw the weakness and changed things to combat it. Might have taken 45 minutes, but got there in the end.

Yep, most managers just don't bother as they're too stubborn.

I dont just mean this game its a joke how bad we've been defending for ages, it needs sorting and if we can see it surely BR can which is an obv thing to say

We arent seeing improvement though, we look bad at the back and any team we face fancy carving us open

  20. He's said he wouldn't work under our owners again anyway after the way they treated Kenny.
