Why do some closed threads get deleted while others remain visible to read. I don't think Mods should close threads jsut because people have disagreed with them and then to delete them is a bit naughty in my opinion.
I think they get deleted if they're offensive or openly provocative, whereas some get closed because they descend into petty arguments, but I could be wrong.
It does but what if the only person who didn't like the comments or discussion was a mod. Are they that 'powerful; on here that they can just delete an article because they don't like it? Not really living up to Comment Debate Create is it?
If you disagree with the decision to close a thread, then you can contact the mod that did it by PM. We've only got two and they normally make a final comment before shutting an article down.
it definately is mate and I really like posting on here, just a bit disappointed that a thread was closed earlier just because dona_mara, myself and another poster had a different viewpoint to CG. And then it got deleted as well when other closed threads remain.
I deleted nothing It must have been Mick, SSS or Syd I saw little point in a I/P thread where I would post stuff and get an emoticon in response (not to mention supposed ethnic cleansing which, if true, would get worldwide media coverage
So it was the one that went off about the Middle East? Yeah, that was so far off-topic that it didn't even know what the original topic was!
There were two other closed threads One was Michigan trying to get around his ban by creating a new account (which I closed) and the other was closed by SSS after he accused someone of being Barcaspur
The suffix to that ethos is 'Freely' too, but with that comes an almost contradictory need for regulation. Ideally that is self regulation, but obviously there is a need for moderation. Of course there is then a need for mods to exercise self regulation too, which I think they are doing. Nobody wants to read endless pages of tiresome bickering, or watch members fight with each other, so that's fair enough for mods to delete. If you want an anything goes approach, then General Chat is where you belong. So there's not really any room for complaining. So far I think this forum is doing pretty well to manage and nurture an environment that a lot of BBC 606ers wanted
I don't want to get into the whole I/P discussion again but I didn't like the way that as soon as we dared to disagree with you then the thread was closed.
I think it was because of the suggestions of a holocaust and the provocative and vastly off-topic nature of the thread, CH. It's a sensitive issue and probably not the best place to discuss it, though you're welcome to try and start an article on the General Chat board, if Piskie's correct.
CH it had nothing to do with daring to disagree with me and everything to do with the direction the thread was taking There was one poster swearing and ranting and another choosing to ignore what I said in favour of sarcastic replies Your allegation that Israel was somehow engaging in ethnic cleansing despite the media watching it like a hawk and the increasing Palestinian population (which would make Israel either not an ethnic cleanser or an incompetent one) made my mind up that letting the thread stay open would mean it turned into a flame war (as easily happens with political topics) I have no objection to an I/P discussion based on facts and not insults/emotion/wild allegations. If you are still unhappy with my decision then so be it.
Yeah it was off topic and a sensitive nature but there was no anti-jew or anti-muslim comments, just a heated debate. Roll on with the football season so we can get back down to proper business
Sorry Colonel, but while I agree with your initial decision to close the thread, you do appear to be pushing a certain view of the situation here. You're inflaming the whole issue, frankly. As Piskie pointed out, that's what the General Chat board is for, though I doubt you'll have any success in coming to an agreement about it, to be honest. I won't add my own opinion, but I'll just say that it's far from black and white.
Yes I am pushing a certain view because I am pro-Israel However I have not deleted any pro-Arab/anti-Israel comments, and was only addressing the supposed ethnic cleansing, and nothing else about I/P. If pointing out that ethnic cleansing by Israel would have worldwide media coverage is inflaming the situation then I am guilty. The problem with using General Chat would be some of the posters there who would derail it

CH the problem with those links is that they are all to left wing sites who have a bias toward the Arab position It would be like me giving you a bunch of links to Fox News
