Alan Oliver, the former Evening Chronicle journalist, is reporting in the Sunday People that Newcastle will recall Nottingham Forest center-back Jamaal Lascelles in January.

Jamaal Lascelles – to join Newcastle in January?

Newcastle did a good deal with Nottingham Forest back in the summer, when we signed Jamaal Lascelles, 20, and goalkeeper Karl Darlow, 23, and then loaned them straight back to Forest for the rest of the season.

But then Newcastle allowed fourth center-back Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa to move to Roma on a season long loan on the last day of the transfer window, which means we have just three senior center-backs in the squad, and allowing that move seemed crazy to us at the time.

The People report suggests that Newcastle may loan Steven Taylor to Forest in exchange for Lascelles, but why swap an experienced Premier League player for a 19 year-old who has never played in the Premier League, however promising Jamaal may be.

Steven Taylor played today and had a solid game in place of Mike Williamson in central defense, after Mike was unavailable because of injury.

This story doesn’t make much sense to us, and if we were to recall a center-back, why wouldn’t we bring back Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, who has been playing well at Roma on a season long loan.

Sounds daft. We need an experienced 1st team ready cb in January. Get lascelles in the summer and then sell one of Saylor or willo. Yanga-mbiwa will probably make his move permanent in January.

<laugh> Well that's clearly not going to happen. A) What Fred the Shred said. B) Jamaal hasn't been getting much game-time at Forest. While I could see us not being happy with that situation, I doubt a player not getting time at Forest will get time here instead... oh and have one of our few CBs as well <laugh>
