It's a foul, but I'm not complaining about it - as others have said we've had enough bad luck against us this season to earn that one.
How anyone can call it an outright foul is beyond me! flamini, seems to go in for the tackle with his back to diame, which is obstruction. The only thing diame can do is go down himself and risk not getting a foul or just getting a free kick. Flamini put his body in their to obstruct Diame, which in itself is a foul, so diame grabbed him to counter balance the decision, I.E 50/50, play on. Flamini's biggest mistake was to stop playing and asking for the foul, this maybe swayed the decision even more in our favour.
It is a foul but in a way I'm glad it led to a goal. Iff it was Sachez on Davies That prick Wenger wouldn't have seen it All the better I think
It was a foul but I agree with Cityswall's point. Flamini was doing the boring obstructing thing and Diame just said **** it I'm coming through. Defenders facing their own goal normally get way too much protection and can just buy a cheap free kick to get out of trouble. Flamini thought he could do that and then when he was fouled he just assumed he'd got a free kick and gave up.
How often do we see defenders obstructing attackers when letting the ball run out for a goal kick and the refs give nothing?
Diame was a very sof type of foul and a few moments earlier he had one not given on himself . Provided you dont grab and pull the shirt or literally pull the man down i dont really see a problem with this type of tussle . As i said before , Keepers can lead with their knees into a clearance , can punch through a busy pen box but are protected from physical players who arn't bowled over so easy .
Definitely a foul. Diame grabbed his shirt pulled him back, then put his arm across his neck. You got lucky with that decision. But we defended poorly. Mertesacker was appealing for a foul instead of trying to tackle Diame
From an arsenal board... A snip at £3.5m Caz19 wrote: What's discouraging is that we're dominating games and drawing...I'd much rather have 2012-13 performances where we were playing mediocre but winning... Having lots of the ball yes, dominating no. Their keeper had a maximum of 3 saves to make. Southampton beat Sunderland 8-0 today with 53% ball possession whereas we have averaged 60% + this season against some very good teams. We are passing the ball incessantly and dribbling around in circles but that's because these teams are allowing us to do so knowing we'll eventually look to try and play a ball through the eye of the needle in the centre. Dominanting is what Diame did to midfield today. He was a monster. It's like he was so sure he'd win the ball that he watched whoever it was coming towards him, stood his ground and said "thank you very much I'll have the ball now". Domination has a physical aspect too. Every ball we put in the air bar one or two was won by Hull. We missed Chambers I felt. Every 50/50 where we dipped a toe or dangled a foot, they put chest, shoulder and back into making sure they won that ball. We lack serious power in the middle and it got shown up today. I'm not talking about a team of 6ft beasts, but players who proactively put their body between man and ball. People like Nigel de Jong and Javier Mascherano aren't giants but try and brush them off the ball.
There were a hell of a lot of soft free kicks yesterday, particularly against Huddlestone who was getting frustrated at how many times he was penalised after perfectly good tackles(though he was correctly penalised for some clumsy one's).
Arsenal are always wanting free kicks, and when they don't get one they make a big fuss!.....Diame maybe did put his hands on fannylini but he should of stood his ground, the fact he started jumping about like a netball player, will not of done him any favours!
Foul or not i don't care, the ref gave it and thats good enough for me. Much more pleasing to see was someone driving forward and going for goal. There were 4 defenders around him, it would have been much easier to fall over looking for a free kick just outside the box which seems to be the standard plan of many forwards these days.
I always think Arsenal dick about too much when they have possession , the team has so much pace in it and a little lightweight but they insist in fart arsing about when a more boring option is much better .
I have sympathy and I've texted Wenger to say sorry that our team didn't let them have 3 points. Teams like Hull shouldn't get in the way of the big boys, it simply isn't fair and would never happen in France
