After finally predicting the right result (and score!) last match after 10 incorrect calls, maybe I should rest on my laurels, but I will go for a 1-0 defeat tomorrow. Although I think Bournemouth may have flattened off after a bright start, and are without Kermorgant, I just don't see how we can continue picking up points with only one effective and enduring forward and, to make it worse, nothing to offer off the bench. Let's hope Bob carries on making an idiot of me by pulling rabbits out of hats. Angola played two games last week but I have not heard any mention of Vetokele playing so I presume he did not? If so, that will help. Reading between the lines of the various interviews, it is clear that the staff and players are looking more towards the bottom of the table than the top, and I think that is realistic with the limited resources at Bob's disposal. For example, Vetokele's is hoping for a "comfortable" season which I assume means "clear of the relegation battle". Because a friend backed out of a meeting this evening, I found myself watching Rotherham v Leeds against my better judgment. I expected a dour negative brawl but it was very fast and exciting with flashes of real skill. Leeds' Italians didn't like it up 'em. Here's a wacky idea. Given the total lack of anyone physical up front, how about trying Morrison there? He's not that quick or skilful, but he should be able to rattle the opposing defence so Vetokele doesn't have a minimum of three players marking him. All he needs to do is stay onside to tie down two defenders and he would be a useful extra big lump for corners and free-kicks at both ends. A real longshot, but got to be more use than Tucudean or Bulot, surely? I think I read that he started as a CF as a junior?
It takes more than being a big lump. Pawel Abbott can attest to that. Cheers for starting the thread, one less thing for me to worry about before travelling down. I noticed Vetokele did an interview with that 1905 thing, so that leads me to believe he must have stayed in London. Well, I certainly hope he did. JBG is back in contention, though bulot is doubtful. Should he not make it, then we may well de grant come in for his first start. Bournemouth have been hit and miss (a punters nightmare this season) but in Callum Wilson they have goals. The midfield is packed with flair - Surman, Taylor, Richie and Pugh will be vying for starts. Then we have a few former addicks to look out for in Arter and Francis. Tricky game to call, but will opt for our regular 1-1, Vetokele scoring. P.S - it's worth noting we will be in our orange kit today.
I can't see us winning this one 2-0 to them. The unbeaten run is like a millstone around our neck. Team I think Bob will start with Henderson Solly, Bikey, Ben Haim, Wiggins Wilson, Buyens, Jackson, Cousins Moussa Vetokele Subs Pope, Morrison, Fox, Gudmondsson, Bulot, Ahearne-Grant, Tucudean or the Harriotts
I'll be on the M25 while this one's being played, and think Dickp is right about the team although I hope Morrison keeps his place at the expense of TBH. It will be interesting to see who is left out of the bench if Gudmunsson is fit. I'm hoping for another smash-and -grab. 0-1(Wilson)
I think the international break will mean Morrison has missed his chance of keeping his place; lost momentum like. If Kermorgant's not playing then I'm confident of at least a point. But I do think we'll concede a couple today so depends on how many we score. If Gudmundson starts I'll be a little more confident come 3 o'clock.
Not really sure if I'm positive or negative tbh, I'm just here like mhmmm, no idea about the game. Lets go for a 1-0 with a Solly strike
Afternoon all Charlton: Henderson, Solly, Wiggins, Ben Haim, Bikey; Gudmundsson, Buyens, Jackson, Cousins; Ahearne-Grant, Vetokele Subs: Pope, Wilson, Morrison, Moussa, Fox, Tucudean, Harriott Bournemouth: Boruc, Francis, Cook, Elphick, Daniels, Ritchie, Surman, Arter, Pugh, Pitman, Wilson Subs: Camp, Smith, Harte, Gosling, Stanislas, Fraser, Rantie So Ahearne-Grant makes his first start up top alongside Igor. Gudmundsson is back after his injury and it looks like Cousins will be on the left again. Former Addicks Harry Arter and Simon Francis start for Bournemouth, whilst Kermorgant is suspended. COYA!
Obviously. But even Pawel Abbott would be better than what we have now. My concern about the second/support striker position is that, while we have a jewel in Vetokele (and all credit to the Belgians for that) he will not last much longer with two, three or four defenders kicking lumps out of him every week, sometimes two games a week, plus his Angolese commitments. If not out injured he will be burned out by the New Year. While it would be nice to have another striker who is a real goal threat or goal creator, the first priority is to the the heat off Vetokele. I accept that Morrison at CF is a dumb idea. It is just that everything else we are trying is even dumber. Good luck to Ahearne-Grant today, though
Ball given away by JBG to Ritchie who advances on goal and gets a low shot away. Henderson tips it wide. Then... GOAL Bournemouth. From the corner Wilson slides it home. 1-0
Vetokele slips in Ahearne-Grant but Elphick slides in to block, and the ball rebounds of KAG for a goal-kick.
Wilson is in down the right hand side of the penalty box, he goes around Henderson but the angle was too tight and he can only find the side netting.
