'Tactics' Tim would be an awful appointment. Absolutely no experience with this sort of team, no experience in the transfer market, inherited a good squad at spurs and still failed to really produce anything. Absolutely ridiculed for his lack of tactical awareness and referred to by almost everyone as Redknapp#2

Therefore I fully expect us to hire him

Stan I took the liberty of putting your post up on the Newkie Board because I thought it was a good 'un but they don't seem to agree so far.

    EG:
I agree with you RE their expectations and ours being pathetically low.

Wise words. These 'rumours' pick up momentum in the media but not necessarily in the board room.

Swords hard to argue with most of what you say, however, as yet we do not know what the latest financial statements look like and it is only journalistic licence that is suggesting £40m fine, plus some previously unheard off bigwig at the FL mouthing off when he should be keeping quiet about not being allowed back in if we don't pay the fine, a la Mark Palios over the points deduction. Truth is they know nothing as yet as the accounts have not been published.

My guess would be that if they did try those sanctions and we were relegated it will end up in court as FFP is anything but fair.

Regarding the yo-yoing WBA & Newcastle did this a couple of times, we've done it once and to be honest they are anything but stable, WBA go through managers almost a much as us and Newcastle is a basket case, however I take your points about building a team etc. Should we get relegated we do actually have a decent core of players in the right age bracket that would give us a chance at an immediate return to the Prem plus we have the old campaigners, Dunne, Hill, Barton etc, add to that some shrewed loan signings and we could have a good crack at it. But we do need the right manager and Harold is most definately not that person.

From the financial perspective TF has to get his house in order and not give in to every whim (Rio the prime example) of the manager, what a pointless signing that was, plus streamline the backroom staff, we seem to have more coaches than players. He need to appoint someone who can build the club up from the ground, get every age side playing in exactly the same formation as the first team so all the players know their role in whatever side they play, this is where Harold has been negligent IMO, he appears to have no interest in the club and baring OBZ day it has been 2 wasted years with him in charge.

If we don't re-build we will just forever go around in circles getting a completely new team every year, further into debt and that thought depresses me which is why I think we should be ready to write off this season, possibly as early as December......

Since the "new" ex-Spurs gang (Hoddle, Les, possibly Chris Ramsey also mentioned) are already ensconced within our club management structure, this would lean towards Tim Sherwood more likely coming in at the helm, whereas Tony Pulis would likely want to bring in his own group, meaning most of the former Spurs group would be marching, requiring hefty pay-off settlements no doubt.

Now Pulis might keep us up this season, then decide to walk again, as he previously did at Stoke & Palace, so Sherwood might be more likely to build towards the future.

Pulis was sacked from Stoke Killy but your point about the ex-Spurs gang is spot on.

Tramore, very good and balanced post. My scenario does seem a bit apocalyptic now that you mention it!

Normally agree with you Tramore, but when you suggest writing off the season now or December you totally lose me. We must stay up at all cost TF can bung, going down would be a disaster as last time, but we can't bank on being so lucky getting out of the Championship twice.

We need to stay up first priority and rebuild. With good management this is of course possible. Hope there is a better alternative than Pulis, but he kept Stoke up for years, so it can be done. The Championship with a fair field of play is very very difficult to yo yo up from.

The time to pause, regroup and build was after we were relegated last time. Agree with Swords and Jock, we have to throw everything at it now, our 'business model' if that's you can call it, can't cope with losing £70m + TV money next season, no matter how big the parachute payments are. Whereas Burnley can become a real yo yo club, getting richer with every relegation.

Fair comment Os, I'm probably looking at it from the worst scenario point of view....we will have a better idea of where we stand after the Christmas/New Year fixtures, but I hope that we don't throw stupid money around in January in the vain hope of staying in the Prem, hence the "writing off" comment....

I would sacrifice 3 points with the same lack lustre, inept performance on Sunday if I knew Redknapp would be gone on Monday............ Never thought Id say it but a new appointment then gives us 30 games to come 12th..... my prediction before the season started.................

We need 4-5 wins before Christmas to even justify any gambles otherwise we should shut up shop.

Just listened to a qpr fan on talk sport & he doesn't think there is anyone better than Harry at moment, doesn't think pullis is right man & wrote off Sherwood, thought Harry was the only man who take us back up & well proved that, but also thinks if we loose next two home games them the board might panic & get rid, I also think that but if anyone else comes in apart from Sherwood there will be a lot back room staff gone even with les there.

Suspect he's right about the last bit. The pay-off could be the easiest money Hoddle's ever earned

I don't rate Tim, but I'm confident he'd get you more points than Harry over the next 30 games.

Yes, Swords, you are correct, appears he was lead to the door - not sure of the difference between "leaving by mutual consent" versus outright "firing" or "sacking"

Tony Pulis leaves Stoke City after seven years in charge
Manager Tony Pulis has left Stoke City by mutual consent following talks with chairman Peter Coates on Tuesday.

    http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/22614097

Pulis's future has been in doubt for some time and he has been told the club feels the time is right for him to leave after seven years in charge.

See where you coming from. Still think that in almost any position we will need to spend money in January. Unless the current or any new Management team can get a lot more goals than we have seen yet, out of someone, Vargas for example, surely we going to have to spend Millions on a striker alone whichever League we are in season after. There's a few other positions that look to need strengthening too.

Very good accessment and very real chance of happening IF we go down.
However, we can get out of this situation IF ..........

    # ... the players perform to even half there supposed ability.
    # ... the manager get's his act together OR gets replaced with someone relevant to our outcome (TP )

Can't say I'm a Pulis man BUT if Harry can't do the work and Pulis comes on board, we must surely be giving ourselves the utmost chance of survival.
Nothing else matters .................. forget the fact that Pulis is not everybody's long term choice.

We just need to survive pass this season. If we don't, it may be a domino affect as some of you have already mentioned and we all know how that will end .......... F1 racing anybody?
