But didn't you know Gez, players are able to play 40-50 games a season and maintain their peak fitness levels. They never tire. As a result, managers are reluctant rotate squads because there is simply no need.
What frustrates me with this conversation is opposition fans thinking is red tinted glasses. It probably is with some but not all, I'm say exactly the same no matter what club they played for. I might wum the Man Utd fans a little bit if it was them mind
Me arse. If you'd have been playing Real Madrid on that day, he'd have been fit and firing. He withdrew from training that day due to Rodgers 2 day (selective) rest theory, and that's my opinion, so there's nothing else to add fella
Exactly - Tobes being the prime example. Now Tobes is Roy's biggest fan because the incident involves LFC so will instantly join the debate arguing against us. Happens every time ... but it is quite amusing seeing Tobes getting owned in almost every thread.
How do you know that Sterling wasn't willing to play against Estonia? Reports suggest he merely stated that he was feeling tired. And you could be right that we would have wanted to start if we were playing against Real Madrid - but fit and firing? It's quite clear the lad is looking jaded but then again, you don't actually watch LFC, you just merely jump on the bandwagon and like to argue for the sake of it.
That sentence is the height of irony given the rest of your post and the facts that simply don't reflect that, anyone with an ounce of objectivity would agree.............
I didn't say he'd refused to play, but it's fairly obvious that if he says he's too tired to train on the only session prior to the game, then he's not going to get a starting berth is he? Listen, you'd argue that black was white with anything LFC related, so this conversation is a complete waste of time, as my view is simple - Rodgers lent on him to ensure that he didn't train on the 2nd 'rest day' and he followed his instruction,. which effectively withdrew him from the starting line up. Only the player and Rodgers know the real truth and I doubt it'll ever be shared, so you keep to your belief that the lad was being genuine and I'll stick to mine that he was caught in the middle of a Rodgers vs Woy power struggle.
That as about as much relevance to my comment Players, managers and clubs fit around the fixture list so yes, he would have been managed suitably so that he would have been fit and available. Do I need to point out that Sterling actually played in the game too? Woy choose to not start him. I see YOU ignored MY question this time too Second question; is it more important to have players training together in a short space of time or for said players to be available to play in the game being prepared for? If resting them prevents injury, it means they can play in the game. Surely that's better than keeping the physio busy? As for fit and firing, you've already pointed out yourself how f**ing useless he's been in recent games for Liverpool
Obviously doesn't know you very well, of all the reds on here, you are the last person who does this in fact we've had many a discussion about it
Tobes would you rather we ran him into the ground, like Owen? Another bright spark burnt out by mid 20s... BR know's what he's doing and Woy has been slated by pundits and sports specialists alike for his dinosaur tactics and methods.
How LFC choose to manage their own player is up to them mate - aside from when he's on an England call up. As for Woys methods vs Rodgers, I don't know the detail of how they differ and I would suspect you don't either. To call the entire England set up archaic would be ridiculous though as the England set up is more than just Woy, there's an entire backroom of physio's, doctors etc that sit behind the manager.
I didn't call the whole set up archaic, just woy the manager. The rest of the England set-up, however, still have to dance to Woy's tune; He's the manager and they will do what he says in accordance with his styles of coaching and training. And in terms of their differences in coaching styles, I would say it's fairly transparent how they differ, especially after Woy's recent hissy fits.
None of these visiting fans (or our own fans for that matter) seem to want to answer this... Is it more important to have players training together in a short space of time or for said players to be available to play in the game being prepared for? If resting them prevents injury, it means they can play in the game. Surely that's better than keeping the physio busy?
You're missing the point though, there's a massive difference between club sides and International teams. If a player is carrying a slight knock and misses a couple of sessions with his club side, it's not as big a deal, as they know the tactics, players and expectations of their positions well, as they train day in day out, week in week out with the same players and under the same manager. When an International manager gets his squad together he has a couple of days to ready them for the first game and then a couple of days before the 2nd. He needs every session he can get, to drill the players into what he wants and to get them used to each other / his tactics.
I think people are getting confused as to what 'resting' in this context means. From what I've read it doesn't mean they don't train, it means light training. And therein lies another question, do any of us actually know what constitutes a full training session? There's no hard and fast rule as far as I know otherwise all clubs would run the same sessions and we know they vary hugely from players comments about different managers.
Of course you would be want to keep the player fit and play them in the game. However, you are making the assumption that by training he will automatically get injured. Why can't he train and not get injured? Any physical training will run the risk of injury. Tobes, at times you normally get picked on for your views (even well reasoned). However i'm going to have to disagree that players cannot pull out midway through camp. If he's feeling tired he's feeling tired. Of course Rodgers could have pushed him too that decision but we will never know and i think you have to give the benefit of the doubt to the player (although i don't think 19 year olds should be tired) As for tailoring to individual needs, makes full sense that different players have different recovery times.
