    Was he injured? - No

Was he recovering from an injury? - No

Was he having to consider taking a pain killing injection to play? - No

    So in summary - No.

p.s. When in the history of football has a young up and coming player, ever turned round to an International manager and said (mid camp) that he was 'too tired'?

How do you know that youngsters HAVEN'T done so, but the manager actually kept quiet about it and respected the confidentiality between the two??

Any anecdotal evidence or players commenting years later, of anything even remotely similar then?

Fair enough, that must means it never happens in the game at all. I guess managers merely rotate their squads for the fun of it.

I apologies for actually entertaining the thought that managers could tell which players may need a rest, or if players say they're a bit tired and then actually decide to rotate the squad a bit, and not make a big thing of it.

I know it sounds completely outlandish that managers rotate their squads and NOT having to publicly justify every selection when they do so.

    How naive of me?

    Stokes for the ROI
    http://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/248483/Tired-Michael-Stokes-is-savaged-by-Trapattoni

    Wilshere for the U21s
    http://www.just-football.com/2011/0...n-england-under-21-european-championships-fa/

Rio's tweet about foreign players being willing to sit out matches due to tiredness

And Redknapp's anecdote around Spurs players wanting out of internationals:
    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...s-who-sought-to-avoid-international-duty.html

Ok, Wilshere was for the U21s and Rio and Redknapp are usually full of s**t, but the anecdotes are there, and Stokes was a clear example.

And tbf to Hodgson, Trapattoni's response indicates he was actually quite restrained about the whole thing.

Read what I said again mate, as none of those examples are equivalent to what has happened here.

Those are players jocking off International duty, there's shed loads of examples of that.

My point was when has this ever happened MID CAMP?

I don't know about his career but his ideas about lighter training/there's no one size fits all philosophy, seems genuinely authentic. I know we had the least injuries and arguably best fitness in the league when we had Peter Brukner and his 'revolutionary' training methods - which interestingly dipped substantially when he left.

    Ah, I see.

Not seen any evidence of that, but then I don't personally see a massive difference between doing it mid camp and doing it the day before camp, as Stokes did. If a player feels tired and not up to performing at 100%, does it matter when they say it?

The assumption being made by people is that if it had been a Liverpool game on Sunday then Sterling would have started. I don't really care either way

The salient difference is, that when the likes of Wilshere jocked off the U21's and Stokes from the Republic, the real reason was that they couldn't be arsed giving up a portion of their summer for Internationals.

This is a player who'd accepted an early season call up, had played a portion of the first game and then (spookily) complained of tiredness to get him out of the training session on what Rodgers insists (when it suits) should be his 2nd post match rest day. Which just happened to be a massive bone of contention between him and Woy.............................oh the co-incidence..............

It's not the same scenario as managers pulling players out of friendlies etc with faux injuries or players themselve not being arsed at going to an end of season U21 tournament.

Swarbs gave you a list of examples - but doing it 'mid camp' is a big issue makes all the difference lol.

Face it - I said this yesterday, I can present you with all of the evidence in the world but you will never accept it because you're biased against LFC. It's very simple.

You would not have batted an eye lid if the player in question was someone from Everton, or even another team other than Liverpool.

and I asked you why managers rotate their squads but you can't answer it - I'll take that as 'I'm sorry Jimmy, I am a biased c*nt and I cannot give you a reasonable answer so I'll try and save face.'

    Apology accepted <ok>

Read post #132 love, as I've answered that there, cheers <ok>

Oh and club managers rotation policies have precisely f** all to do with an International managers task of facing 1 or 2 game every few months, hence the reason I ignored it - as it was a f**ing idoitic point, but it came from you, so hardly a shocker <ok>

Sterling never told Hodgson he was tired and didn't want to play. He was asked a few questions by Hodgson, and the answers he gave meant Hodgson decided he was too tired to play.
