Wow that's a really competitive category He's been ripped apart in every game I've seen (a preseason and some league this and last season) So you can't name 5 games then?
This is spot on. Owen played far too many games too young and that's what cost him longevity. He admitted it himself: '''While I was playing every game available to me there was another young kid in the Liverpool academy called Steven Gerrard who was showing huge potential. âUnlike me, who was playing 80 games a season, Steve couldnât stay fit. I am convinced that this was to his advantage in the long run. His body just needed time to grow into itself and at that time it couldnât take the stresses and strains of football. I was a little pocket rocket that lapped up games. I couldnât get enough of it. Because of this I would play a full season with Liverpool and then, when everyone else wrapped up their best youngsters on a summer break, I was playing for England, sometimes three years above my age group. This continued for a few years. I played week in, week out, without a break for years. In my opinion, had I been managed differently I would have been at my best for longer as opposed to being a better player. In my case I feel I played too much, too soon.'' Rodgers needs to look after our current 'pocket rocket' so the same doesn't happen and that looking after includes having discussions with national managers to which they should be open.
Not entirely convinced on this fella tbh. His approach to physiology appears to be criticising every method currently in use. He's criticised Mourinho, SAF, Moyes, Hodgson, Rodgers and others. Just ten months ago he was slamming Liverpool for causing injuries due to a lack of training, now he's praising them for not training their players as much! http://www.101greatgoals.com/blog/d...-wonders-why-liverpool-have-so-many-injuries/ If he actually proposed a training system, and more importantly implemented it at a club with long term success, then I'd be a bit more impressed with his constant complaining.
John Stones 2014/15: 7 appearances, 9 goals conceded, 0 goals scored, 1 clean sheet #bestyoungEnglandCBforyears
Owen never played anywhere near 80 games in any season in his career. He also didn't play many more games than the supposedly 'never fit' Gerrard. As from 2000 to when he left Gerrard played more league and cup games than him. His heads gone
He's written a book on it! http://www.alibris.co.uk/Complete-Handbook-of-Conditioning-for-Soccer-Raymond-Verheijen/book/1240481 This is also an interesting article from when he was assistant coach for Wales - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...rick-plotting-foil-Fabio-Capello-England.html
Phrased that badly, sorry. I meant if he'd actually implemented a system at a club or country with long term success. Seems that he is a proper journeyman - works for clubs and countries for a year or so and then is out the door and looking for work. If his methods were so great I would have thought he'd have been retained by all the clubs he's worked for. Also most of the positive views of his system tend to be very selective. Like the article you posted - he's basically saying Mancini's methods are s**t and will cause injury. But then Mancini managed to keep pretty much the entire City team fit throughout the whole of the 11/12 season, which gave them a crucial advantage against Utd and ultimately decided that year's title. So Mancini's methods must have been good for something. I'm not saying he can't be right about Sterling, as he quite possibly is to an extent, but I don't see his blanket approach as being all that valid. Look at Ronaldo - he's about the most explosive player in the world and regularly put in extra sessions at Utd and Real to develop himself and hasn't suffered at all. Whereas RVP isn't all that explosive, but was crocked most of his years at Arsenal.
I think about three years now. We really ruined poor Mikey when he finally got his hands on that PL winner's medal
