Just seen a piece on Rangers financial troubles on Sky Sports & I see Mike Ashley has got 9% interest in them. Does anyone know if they're planning any official double ownership styles like Watford, Udinese & the others. Also anyone heard anything else about this. Or is this old news?
Ashley wouldn't have to sell Newcastle, the clubs operate under two different FA's and there's nothing to stop him owning both. He's about to increase his shareholding from 9% to 25% allegedly.
I'm sure his 'family' could control Rangers whilst he still owns Newcastle. No different to Hull City/North Ferriby.
I don't think there's much chance of Newcastle playing anyone in European competition. It was The Guardian where I read it wasn't an issue... http://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2014/oct/08/mike-ashley-rangers-newcastle-naming-rights
It's not just EUFA though is it? It's the SFA rules too. He really is a slimeball though ain't he? Worth almost 4 billion but still a slimeball.
I've really no idea, my earlier post was just based on what I read in that Guardian article, which looks to be wrong.
