Improvisation mate, that's all you need.

I remember my brother waking everybody up when I was a kid saying somebody was robbing the shed, as I watched (aged 7 ish) on in excitement at my two brothers and my step dad going down tooled up, I seen my oldest brother was armed with a hot water bottle... anything you can grab mate!

A WWII stick grenade! No explosive inside now, unfortunately!

Oh and a walking stick made entirely out of geet big bullets that some bored soldier made in Africa during WW2! The handle has a pointy end from the tip of one of the bullets. Pretty sturdy thing! Lethal!

    Ah, the Kalashnikov.
Very reliable, effective & cheap weapon in some countries.
    7.62 x 39mm rounds, it packs a punch & is a man stopper.
Much better weapon than the feeble SA80 the British army are supplied with.
Poxy 5.56mm rounds, they have less punch.
The SLR was much better though a bit cumbersome.

The Yanks M16, although only 5.56 calibre is a great assault rifle & has been in use for years.
Given the choice of a Kalashnikov, SA80, M16 or an SLR, I'd go for the AK everytime.

Joke all you want, just don't be surprised if he comes out of nowhere and ninja death touches you.

Staffys are people dogs. Nothing like their reputation.

Hammer and Screwdriver. Nothing special and nothing I have to worry about the police finding in my house. Fully confident in my own ability with either too.

I suppose oddly, I have always kept a kettle full to the brim in my bedroom at the front of the house. That's for the people that think it's ok to come to my door.

See I agree with you mostly - but would never have one around my kids - I have seen 2 of them lose the plot and attack their owners before - both lucky to get away with their lives. That said - that's 2 from the hundreds (or thousands) that I have seen in my life. Most dogs are only as well behaved as the owner want them to be!!

Therein lies the problem. People- whehter irresponsible ownership or breeding. Historically the dogs were bred for fighting with each other, and any sign of aggresion to humans saw them put down.

What you want is a Dogo Argentino or Presa Canario. Now they are proper deterrents.

If you're going to buy a dog, strictly for protection purposes, then there's no point wasting money on a big dog, feeding it and so on. Why not just get a King Cobra, do you know anybody who would break into a house that has one of those as a guard snake <laugh>, you could feed the snake on all the ****ty cats that come into your garden, so it would cost nothing!

I love dogs, I would fully expect any dog I ever own to hide under the bed in the event of a burglary!

Our dog, a chocolate lab, would open the door for a burglar if she thought they might give her some food. She'd certainly not scare anyone.
